I was looking at a 90 talon tsi awd 5 spd 90000 miles unmodified, The problem is it wont start, the guys that own the car lot say the crank angle sensor is bad.

So i took a day to check the car out did a compression check 160 across, All timing marks are on.

I then check the fuse box under the hood the 80 amp alt fuse is blown would this cause the car not to start also what could be wrong that the fuse is blown.

Any way i can pick the car up for 1500.00 what do you guys think ?

Thanks for the link but i didnt see where is specifies if the 80 amp alt fuse will keep the car for starting ?????

Im 99.9% sure it will not keep it from starting but it could cause the battery to go dead. Check the battery and also check to make sure the little red "cover" isn't ripped off of the alt line/bolt connector on the back of the alt.

The car turns over fine but like i said the fuse is blown and i dont to replace and have this dealership jack up the price if it starts.

I wouldn't think that would keep it from starting, but since it has compression and timing, check for spark and fuel. If it has those, then it shouldn't be too bad to fix. If there's no fuel, then try giving it a little starter fluid- if it starts, then you can tell them it's an ecu and/or fuel pump, and get the price down a good bit. If there's no fuel though, then it would probably take a few hours to figure out why. I had looked at replacing my '90 with 86,000 miles, Mitsubishi dealer offered $1,000 for it, and that was running and all cleaned up. For a non-runner, that seems like a lot of $.

Again thanks for the replys ill check into those things. I talked my buddy into letting me pull the 80 amp out of his talon to see if his will start without it. Ill let you guys know how that goes.

hey, did you check for spark? or fuel? the 80 amp should only cause the car not to charge. but it should still start if that is all. but if it is blown there may be a wiring problem somewere in the system. because they usually dont blow.

Those were my thoughts too

Bought the 90 tsi on saturday was able to talk them down to 1400.00 he said thats what he had in it.

if fuse blow's, the problem is short circuit, when Capacitor leak on ECU the fluid make corrosion on trace

check you ECU

Update picked the car up today for 1400.00 put it on the lift changed the oil replace the bad fuse and put a spare ecu in that my buddy had laying around and waaalaaaa its starts and drives.

So i ending up with a unmodifed 90 tsi awd with 90000 miles on it for 1400.00 thanks to rha 81 for the ecu advise.

Congrats man!

just remember that 90 stuff like electric is 90 only. It has to be a 90 ecu...

another thing to test the ecu is by turning the key on (dont try to start it) and if the stock boost gauge moves to 0 and the Check engine light comes on its good. if not the ecu is bad! I bought a fresh rebuild 91 with 60 k on the body and less than 5k on motor for 2k and it wouldnt run. when I got it to the garage did that and the ecu was bad and I had a eprom laying around put her in and all was good started right up. I almost drove it off the trailer because it was in 2nd gear and I was so excited i dumped the clutch. thank god it was tied down.

Yeah we put a 92 eprom in it and it ran like sh!t swapped in a 90 and presto runs perfect checked the rear diff fuild tranny and transfer case all looked recently changed
