Found a great 90 talon For sale I'm really thinkin bout buyin.
Paint/body is in great shape, motor runs fine w/160k
But it has a tranny problem, the guy sellin says its stuck in a gear, and the clutch feels pretty soft. What could be causing this? Better yet what would it most likely be?
Transmission itself? Clutch cable f'd up? Linkage bent? or any other problem I cant think of? Any Ideas?

I can ###### grab this car up for about $1700 but I dont want to spend that much fixin it as soon as I buy.

Also he said he disconnected the drive shafts so he could get it started.. Would I be able to tow like that? Or should i just throw it on a flatbed anyways?

found this on towing AWD, tho info is for subies, should still count for any AWD no?

Towing a Subaru behind a motorhome or a tow-truck
The following is from Subaru "Helpline Update, 2/97"
There has been a change to the policy regarding towing of Subaru vehicles behind motorhomes. The following applies to 1990 through present model year Legacy (Including Outback), 1993 through present year Impreza (incl. Outback Sport), and 1992 through present year SVX. (Note: should also include 1998 through present year Forester. Joe)

Manual Transmission:
All Wheel Drive vehicles can be towed with all four wheels on the ground or with all four wheels off the ground on a trailer but towing an AWD vehicle must never be attempted with only two wheels on the ground or two wheels on a dolly.

Front Wheel Drive vehicles can be towed with all four wheels on the ground in neutral or with the two front wheels off the ground.

Automatic Transmission AWD vehicles cannot be towed with any wheels on the ground. The vehicle can only be towed on a trailer with all 4 wheels off the ground and the transmission in park.

Use this maybe? http://www.uhaul.com/guide/?equipment=autotransport

Either a shift calbe is fraying and jambed in the cable housing, or it cold be something inside the trans itself. Remember 1990 and 1991 has a 22 spline trasnfer case so if you have to replace the trans it's has to be a 22 spline or you'll need to replace the transfer case as well. It sounds like the $1,700 price is a bit much unless this is THE car you've been dreaming of. Good luck
