90 Eclipse Sleeper Headlights

I have a 90 eclipse with the pop up headlights...you probably can only answer this question if you have the same car...but I want to adjust my headlights so that they are sleepers...to do this I have to unplug the headlight motors...on the one side the air filter is there (which i could take off if i really wanted to get to it) and on the other side its almost impossible to take the plug off because my power steering filler and bunch of lines are in the way...any suggestions or ideas on how to unplug these easier? Thank you.

If you mean the 'sleepy eyes' look, just do the chiclet mod. Search for it. A 'sleeper' is a very heavily modded car, but still maintains stock looks.
With the chiclet mod, the popups are on button control, but when you turn the headlights on, the motors stop. So you can 'catch' them partway up, or leave them all the way down.

What I used to do was turn the light knob about halfway so that the lights come on, yet the pop-ups stay down. You have to play with it at first but it works. The lights get triggered earlier than the pop-ups on the knob....Try it out...its free!!!!

Uh... what? Are you talking about the rheostat for the interior gauges (dimmer), or the pop-up headlight button? I've never seen anything about 'turning' the headlight button to prevent the popups from coming up.

Chiclet mod, you just pop off your passenger side outer kickpanel, and look for a white plastic connector with three wires going into it. Mine was taped up to another bundle of wires with black electrical tape. Then use a screwdriver to push at the 'locking tab' (it isn't a locking tab) until the 'chiclet' pops out of the connector. Boom, button-controlled popups. The down side is that your foglights no longer work, unless you rewire the button for them to the running lights, or another key-on power source. I'm still trying to figure out which of the three chiclet 'legs' you need to cut off so you have button-popups, but still have working foglights too.

No, not the dimmer. The switch to turn on the headlights. One click is the corner lights, and the second is the headlights and then the pop-ups come on. if you turn the switch halfway between them you can make the head lights come on without the pop-ups coming up. you cant make them come half way though, its either open or shut.

i believe most people just remove the fuse or relay for the headlight motors and just manually put them in the "sleepy" position and just leave them.

When I bought mine it had that "mod". One of the previous owners had simply removed the three or so bolts that hold the pop up motor to the back of the headlight housing. The motor was then held on by one bolt, allowing it to rock when the weight of the light was on it and prevent it from fully opening the headlight while thinking it was.

Of course the lights won't come on just yet, but that's another thread...

i just unplugged both motors to the headlights and used the little hieght adjuster to raise them where i wanted them too. Sure they just stay there for good till i plug the motors in again but oh well. I used a Really long pair of needle nose pliers to pull both plugs for the motors off.

yeah thanx for the tips guys..but i found it the easiest to just unplug the headlight from the relay box....got sleepy headlights now ..too bad the rest of my car looks like crap ### of the lazy paintjob that the last guy did on it
