Hey guys i have a 89 dodge colt with a 4g63 n/a the non boosted motor. anyways i have been looking it up and can not really find any information on the question i have. Can the boost the 4g63 n/a motor safley. My question is also what kind of boost can i look at. Such as if i could run 7 psi would that be safe or would i still have to worry about detonation? I know that the 4g63t and the non boosted 4g63 are basically the same besides the pistons and the camshafts that are a little bit higher or lower depending on motor. Any answers would help. Just making sure before i boost it, it will be safe to drive. thanks. I was going to get the 4g63t but cost and money were short so i picked up a 4g63 n/a and tranny for 300 bucks so i took the deal thanks guys!

Yes, you can boost the n/a but in all honesty, you will never be happy being limited to the 5-7psi you can run. If anything, just find a 63t shortblock and build from there, it should only be 2-300 for one. There's nothing like a 63t'd colt though. Don't forget to join us over at Redirecting....

You can get the same results by putting forged turbo internals in it. You would be missing the turbo 63T's piston coolers/oil jets, but with forged internals you aren't supposed to need them. The N/A engines run higher compression with weaker pistons, which is what will really hold you back.

yeh guys thanks for the info. I wanted the 4g61 but they are so rare and i can't find one in my location. Yeh im thinking about taking the 63 out pputting the 15 back in and working on the 63 and put the turbo pistons for compression and building the head mildley. but at the same time i just want to boost it. I guess im just ready for it. yeh but as far as the oil squarters im not to worried about it. But thanks again for the info i will consider all of it. So my question is. do you think it will run 7 psi as a daily driver without detonation?

It depends on a lot of variables, 5 psi is usually a given, 7 is iffy if you're not tuned.
