Just have a few questions on swaping a 4g63 into a non turbo 89 colt. I have heard that a eclipse turbo fwd tranny will bolt right in. What year will fit, and what axles whould i need for it. Also can I put the eclipse shifter linkage in it? Any help for this swap would be great. Thanks in advance

well as this is a huge thing up by me, i can give you a good bit of informatioin.

basically unless you have a GT with the 4g61 turbo motor, which is sorta rare, you will need the engine and transmission and the wiring harness for the engine controls. The colt GT has the 4g61 motor as i stated. If you have one of those vechiles, you can bolt a 4g63 motor to the cars 4g61 trans (although the gearing is different and might have some spin problems in first / second) and use the factory wiring harnesses. Only thing is the 4g61 was non-intercooled.

otherwise you probably have a normal colt where youll want the trans and motor from a 1g dsm and the wiring harness. Get the FWD trans with the thicker axles (forget the years) just because they are stronger. You should be able to use the DSM axles with a problem.

basically if you have the motor, trans, axles, and controls, your set. have to get clever for intercooler piping seeing there is no stock provision for the pipes. Also, might want to consider a different radiatior for the NA models.

When I did mine I was able to use everything that was stock you can even use the stock tranny but not a good idea, but mine also is a 89 gt that came with the turbo 4g61.But a friend of mine did do a n/a swap into a normal colt and was able use the stock axles or you can get the gt axles. You can use an eclipse shift linkage.Seeing you have a non turbo colt you will have to take wiring harness and ecu from your 1g dsm just like low impedance said, and also do some minor adjustments to the motor mounts.

Hey i have a 89 dodge colt gt it came with a 4g61 turbo and i have the stock transmission, i also have a gs transmission that was just rebuilt.. will the gs trani bolt right onto a 4g63 because that is what i was gonna swap into it.. i dunno which one would be better?

Sorry for a revive. There is a 91 colt hatch for sale dirt cheap (manual none turbo 1.5) and a dirt cheap 95 talon tsi for sale (running motor and Trans but body is beat to death and rusted to the point of non repair) so if I take the 2g and remove everything (ecu, engine harness, shift linkage, trans, engine, ect) would it just be drop in or would I have to fab stuff up

If it were a 1g fwd you could use entire driveline with a few modifications. 2g not so easy.2g have roll stop mounts on transmission. 1g have the rolls stops on engine just like the colts.I have this swap done on my colt and man its fun. awd would be great but it's a big task. Like stated all the information needed to know about the swap is on 4g61t.org forums. In the 4g61/63 tech section.
