I'm gonna be looking at a six bolt block from my cousins 92 gs. The engine spun a rod bearing is what he told me. I'm pretty new to the dsm game but I know I would rather have a 6 bolt than a 7 bolt in my 2nd gen.

So what are some useful tips that I should use when checking the engine out? How can I tell if its trash or useful?

Thanx in advance

how did that not answer the question? he said "his car" meaning my cousins, which i stated was a 92gs (non-turbo). If he said "your car" then that's directed at me. My car is a gst.

He asked if "His Car" - meaning your cousins car was turbo or non-turbo...... Just because it's a GS doesn't mean it's n/t... it could have been a GS with a turbo. I would not put a turbo on a n/t engine, unless you are doing a complete teardown and rebuild with turbo internals.
