6 Bolt with ARP studs. What to torque nuts to?

Hi, I just got a 6 bolt block I'm doing a head swap on, it has STUDS in it though. I've never dealt with these.

They are ARP's i believe, What do i torque the nuts to?

The studs are already installed in the block, but the nuts I removed to pull the head, now i need to reinstall and torque correctly.

Any Help?
 
might not be such a good idea to reuse those head studs. they tend to only have 1 life out of them till you pull off the head because they bolts are already stretched.
 
The engine was just rebuilt, and its not ever been driven, just idled. I will take my chances. I just need it to last at least a month.
 
ohh, they're fine then. like previous poster state, torque them 3 times, 30, 60 then 90, make sure to do it 1 at a time.
 
Just to update the thread, I just got off the phone with ARP and they told me if you have a 12mm stud to torque to 130ft/lbs.

I have a 7-bolt with 12mm studs before that question comes up.

Is that torque using their moly lube or oil on the studs?

I know this is a old thread but I just wanted to say I'm pretty sure arps are fine to reuse because they are not TTY, torque to yield. Factory bolt are not recommended to reuse because they are TTY.
 
They can be used over again, however you still need to measure them and make sure they are not stretched in any way. If you overheat your engine, you can damage those bolts too. Be careful when reusing head bolts, IMHO new bolts everytime for less heartache later.
 
I also thought it was high be he assured me that the torque value is dependent upon the bolt size and not the engine, ergo 12mm is 130ft/lbs. I'll go to 90ft/lbs but no more personally.
That's right, all torque values are detemined by only 3 things. Type of material, fastener diatemer, and type of lubricant.

ARP gave you the torque value for 12mm 8740 studs using motor oil. If you're going to use moly lube (which is preferred), then torque to 85-88 ft/lbs.

They can be used over again, however you still need to measure them and make sure they are not stretched in any way.
This is true, but also keep in mind that measuring is only useful if you also measured and reorded their lengths prior to installing and using them. Otherwise, there's nothing to compare 'after use' measurements to.

Just to be clear though, I read the name of the lubricant to him, which was ARP's Ultra Lube and 3 times he said 130ft lbs. After I kept questioning him he said as long as the threads can hold it...

Well, he gave you incorrect info then. You want to use the exact same torque specs for a 6-bolt. 130 ft/lbs is well beyond their yield strength, and that would completely and instantly ruin them.
