Can someone please tell me if there is something to ground on a 2g (98 gst) to be able to adjust the timing? I have found post saying yes and no, but no clear pictures of anything i would have to ground.
If it isn't possible how would i go about changing the ignition timing without dsmlink?

it has the green top CAS if that matters

Only 95 cars have the timing plug. You'll need link or a MUT tool to plug into the ECU to turn off ECU controlled timing advance.

Gotta figure that 2g cars don't have adjustable CAS' so why would you need a plug to adjust timing?

Thanks for the info, I guess I did figure a 2g wouldn't need one but at the same time I was holding out hope for some sort of trick to help me out. I guess I'll wait for dsm link, thanks again.

You have a 98. That means you have a reprogrammable ecu. All you need is a tactrix cable($200)

Just Google ceddymod

The only funny thing is that in ecuflash you can change the degree timing when plug is shorted. That's why I thought 2g's had a timing plug.

I'll look into it, but i might as well spend another 150 and go for link since I can easily adjust it with the 1g CAS.

The cable would be cheaper since you have a flashable ECU. Link requires an EPROM ecu which would mean you would have to either buy a 95 EPROM ECU or get a 95-97 ECU and send it to ECMLink to get converted. Then on top of that the cost of Link.

I'm not saying Link isn't good, I love it, in your case flashing would be cheaper and just as viable.

If you have a data logger then you can try to match the displayed timing value to the timing mark on the crank pulley. Instructions at the bottom of this page.

RRE Instructions

The problem with that is that the timing value on the logger is constantly changing a few degrees up and down so this method is not the most accurate but it will get you close.

As mentioned there is a mod that can be flashed onto the ECU to allow you to ground the timing. This requires that you install a wire at pin 52 of the ECU harness. This will be the wire that you ground to hold the ignition timing at 5* BTDC.
