Ok i have just recently came into the DSM world i have a built honda...rx8...and a 70 cuda restoration still in progress but i have always like the dsm 6 bolt i bought a 99 gsx shell and i just ordered a 6bolt engine. I am in the works of starting to order internals for my build but im at a crossroads on how much to bore out my block? now i have been on here looking at the debates between .020 and .040...i want to go big and my gut say to just go with the .040 but i have not read any hard hitting post that say the blocks structural integrity can handle that as a week end warrior? and i can not find a freaking shop manual...only pieces of one...


Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated
 
The CID gain between .020 and .040 may be as much as a 2 cubic inches..... and even if you can tune to the nth degree you may give up 9hp,

Take it .020 and leave some meat for the next rebuild...

If you just have to go .040 on an all out build, have the block sonic checked to check for cylinder wall thickness and core shift.
 
Don't bore for displacement, bore to clean up the cylinders. The minimal gain is displacement from boring won't be noticeable in any way. If it will clean up with a .020 than go with that.
 
Ok i appreciate this. i was just unsure due to the fact that im reading about guys saying just keep it with a .020 over and then others saying .040 with guys saying that in the long run is no good and im pretty sure i seen a few threads talking about a .060.....witch in my mind if your telling me to go .020 then the guys wanting or are going .060 are nuts. but thanks greatly appreciated!
