6 Bolt, Lost Oil, Engine Rebuild Possible?

I am looking at a 100% stock 90 Eagle Talon with a 6 bolt that I can get pretty cheap. The only problem is that it lost all of its oil while driving down the city street. The guy says that it leaked from the oil presser sensor. The engine stalled after all of the oil leaked and he was stuck in the middle of the road. He doesn't have the time to fix the car and has some done up honda that he is going to drive. Would it be possible to rebuild this engine to hold some power or could this even just be from the guy driving the car too hard and the oil dip stick popping out?

Well im sure the engine probably seized up, so the easiest thing you could do is rebuild the bottom. New rings, bearings, and some machine work and you should be ok. Im sure it wouldnt be to hard to fix the problem. Also how does the dipstick shooting out have anything to do with him losing all his oil? Are you trying to say that your not 100% sure that thats how the engine got messed up? How much is he selling it for?

It wouldn't be hard at all to rebuild the bottom end and get it to support good amounts of power. Have the rods checked and reconditioned it needed. Get new rings for the pistons and have the block machined to get rid of any scoring or grooving that might have occured. The head should be fine but take the cams out and check there riding surface as well. If the rods are fine. New rings and bearings will get you by like it is a new motor.

I'm buying a 91 with the same problem. You say it can be rebuilt. What has to go wrong in order for it to be unsalvagable? I mean how will you know when it's unrebuildable?

It would have to have a hole in the block. Anything else can be machined unless like the cylinder is grooved bad and has already been bored before. On a stock motor anything short of a cracked or hole in the block can be rebuilt easily.

Check the condition of the crank and rods. The crank can take a bit of a pounding, but if that's scored up, start shopping around for a new crank. Same with the rods. It would be nice if you can keep them, but if they're not any good, start shopping for a new set.
