I've honestly tried looking for an answer to this issue with no luck what so ever. I've made small amounts of progress but I feel i'm still just getting nowhere. I'm in the middle of swapping a 6 bolt head onto my 7 bolt block. The car will crank and with some gas given it will start (barely run and will not idle on it's own). I have installed a 1G CAS on the head and if i've understood the RRE instructions I believe it is wired in correctly. Before it was installed the car wouldn't run at all haha. Although I did loose my RPM gauge when I wired it in which has me thinking it may possibly be wrong, or I misunderstood something. The car does have 272's installed in the head but while it's running it doesn't sound healthy at all. It sounds out of time and has a light ticking from the head which i am hoping is just lifter tick but on account of not knowing I haven't had the car running that much at all and i'm gonna 100% redo the timing tomorrow just to eliminate that as an issue.
A question I can't find a solid answer on tho is that if timing the engine with a 6 bolt head/7bolt block is any different. I have the dowel pins straight up (12 o'clock) and the timing marks level and facing each other (3 o'clock exhaust and 9 o'clock intake), and the arrows/marks on the balance shaft and crank positioned according to All Data. Does this sound as it should for the swap?
Not being 100% on the CAS install has me doubting things aswell. I have the blue wire from the 95 CAS pigtail going to slot 1 on the 1G CAS, And then the 3 wires from the crank sensor wired in aswell. Now with this wiring are you just suppose to splice the cas harness into the wires? Or completely cut and just wire them directly to the 1G cas? I have the just directly wired to the CAS now which i'm pretty sure is why I lost my RPM since i have nothing going to the crank sensor.
Apologize in advance since I know this swap is a big topic but I literally have read all I can and can't get this thing to run good, or really at all.
