5th gear issue, need advice

My fifth gear pops out of gear at 3000 or more rpms if I dont hold it in. I had a shop look at it, and they said it would need a full rebuild because my forks were messed up and/or there is an aluminum wheel that would need to get replaced. They gave me a $700 estimation. BUT - this same shop mounted my front passenger side rotors crooked and 'forgot' to put oil in after they changed the filter, so I don't really trust their judgement. What do you guys think? New tranny, have a (different) shop rebuild it, or order the parts and try to fix it myself while my car is having the kit put on? Thanks.

any problems with any other gears? I'd do a full rebuild and replace the 5th hub/sleeve as well as the gear if it's chipped up. Should cost around $700 for parts to do a FULL rebuild.

sorry, i just noticed youre n/t, youre prolly better off finding a used trans at a junk yard, it would be less than a rebuild.

which is the same as a full rebuild essentially unless you want to pay more for upgrades....
