Ok simple question for all the guys that have been into the insides of a manual transmission.

I am doing an AWD swap to my GST Spyder. the AWD trans from the donor is in unknown condition with well over 140K miles on it.

now the FWD trans i have was just rebuilt and i paid really good money to have it done right. it has litterly less than 3K miles on it before i had engine issues and decided to do the awd swap all at the same time.

now with that said I want to know if the gear set from the 97FWD trans would fit into the 99AWD case. and if so is it hard to change.

Nope, sorry, the gear clusters are no where near the same as the W5M33 box. The interchangable parts are the following: 5th gearset is the only interchangable part (different ratio than AWD), along with the 1/2 hub and slider, the synchros are the same, the needle bearings are the same, the 1/2 hub and slider is the same, the input shaft and intermediate shaft snaprings are the same, both input shaft tapered roller bearings are the same, and the intermediate shaft inner tapered roller bearing. 3/4 shift fork and 5/R shift fork are the same as the AWD parts. The 1/2 shift fork is different.

There are a few other parts that are the same as well.

Unfortunately, the input shaft, intermediate shaft, 1st-4th gearset are not interchangable. The drive gear in the FWD is 4th gear on the countershaft while it is 3rd gear in the AWD that drives the center differential.
