I have just recently picked up a 95 gst and I have noticed that when shifting into 4th gear it slips out or doesn't get into gear. Would replacing the clutch and flywheel (like I plan on anyway) fix the problem, or am I looking at a trany problem.

Chances are the problem is in the tranny. This is of course assuming that things like shifter linkages are okay and making sure that there are no obstructions in the engine bay preventing the shifter arm on the tranny from engaging 4th gear. You might be able to adjust the shift linkages slightly under the center console (you can on a 1g).

Since you mention that it doesn't get into 4th gear at all sometimes it doesn't sound like a slipping clutch. A slipping clutch would just cause the rpms to rise while the car is under load, but you'd still be able to get into gear. I would check the easy things above first, however when I had this problem on my tranny with 2nd gear, it ended up being the 2nd gear hub/slider.

Hope this helps.

Thanks man, I will be getting a new aluminum fly wheel and performance cluch here soon, if that doesnt fix the problem then its what I dont want (A tranny problem)

Like yoko said its hard to tell. Sounds like a bad syncro to me. I was going through the same thing. I priced them through mitsubishi at 300 Just for the parts. Good luck!

If it wont go or stay in gear it is not a syncro problem but a gear or shift fork problem. Not going into gear could mean missing or lost teeth on the 4th gear. Grinding is a sycro problem.
