I paid $1700 for a replacement 30,000 mile used engine for my 2G. You can find a low mileage used one for $1500-$2000, and rebuilt for about $1000 more.
Do a yahoo or google search for rebuilt or used mitsubishi engines, you'll get thousands of matches. Good luck, hope that helps.
