so ive been hearing different things about 4g63s.. I thought that only 4g63ts were boosted, but everyone is saying that all 4g63 are turbod...so anyone wanna clarify?:hmm:

A 4g63 and a 4g63t are pretty much the same thing. Only the 4g63t came boosted from the factory, hence the "t". It has lower compression, oil squirters, and a few other things different from the non-turbo 4g63.

I'm sure that you, however, know that your car has a 420a made by Chrysler, not the 4g63 made by Mitsubishi.

All the 1 g's 2.0 carry 4g63 motors does not matter if it is turbo or non turbo.4g63 refers to the engine block, the difference between T & n/t 4g63's would be the internals : pistons, oil squirters, even the early galants came with the 4g63 sohc motor.

The 4G63 engine was designed by Mitsubishi. Mitsubishi makes cars and trucks for many worldwide markets (USA, Japan, Asia, Europe) and has their own naming and numbering system for its engine variants and families. For many years they also used names of star systems for engine families. The 4G63 was part of the Sirius family of Mitsu engines. Mitsu's designation of the 4G63 is as follows:

"4" is for 4 cylinder, "G" is for gasoline, "6" corresponds with Mitsu's Sirius family of engines, "3" corresponds to the engine itself (each engine within the family is given a number, in this case 3 but which has nothing to do with capacity) and the optional "T" which means a turbo variant.

The 4G63 was in many forms, single overhead cams, double ohc, turbo and normally aspirated. There was great difference in cylinder heads and the turbo variants were more stout internally.

DSMs included the Eclipse, Plymouth Laser and Eagle Talon and included both turbo and non turbo engines. I think but am not positive the first gen DSM non-turbo cars used 4G63 engines and the later non turbo cars used 420A engines from Chrysler. The 420A engine is not at all comparable to 4G63 engines and even less so compared to the 4G63T.

The 4G63 was used in Lancers and some Galants and I think the first Lancer which used the nickname "Evo" was in 1990 or 1991. Eclipse's with 4G63Ts were first in production by either 1989 or 1990.
