My main question is what in a 4g63 makes it a better motor then a 420a. I read a couple of titles that had to do with people wanting to do an engine swap and everyone says that it would just be cheaper to sell the one that they have and get a already turboed eclipse. So what i am wanting to know is the internal engine differences. I mean say does a 4g63 have a stronger lower end or anything standout. So the next question would be why would a turboed 420a be any worse then a 4g63. any help would be great.

oh boy i see this post starting a bunch of crap. Your comparing apples and oranges they arent even close to the same motor and are made by different manufactures. The swap isnt worth the time for most people because its far from a direct bolt in. The 4g63 is made for a turbo application with strong ring landings, low compression, oil jets to cool the pistons, and much bigger rods. The 420ghey (sorry) isnt gonna be able to hold up to a ton of HP unless its properly rebuilt for turbocharging. Plus those things blow HGs stock all the time. (atleast my experience) ofcoarse the 420 is freewheeling i think (someone else correct me) which is a huge plus.

i dont want to do any converting i have already found that is a not worth the time and money. More so i was looking for the info that you said about the oil jet to keep the pistons cool, stronger rods and stuff like that is what i want to know about. What i guess i am trying to ask is, what features does the 4g63 have that the 420 doesnt? That is what i am really tring to figure out

On another note I am also a probetalk.com'er and i have been doing that for sometime, I have an 89 PGT that runs really good and i was thinking of taking that little turbo off that and putting it on my RS. I also have a 94 probe that i am going to make my fast car and it has a t3-to4e hybrid turbo and that is more a project.

It'll really be easier to get hold of the shop manuals and mull-over the details than to try and explain them all. The 4G63 really is a good design, but never sell the 420A short, either. The one's a Mitsubishi, and the other's a Chrysler. The Mits looks a bit prettier, but the Chrysler is ugly like a tank, and that sort of thing has its own beauty. Both engines are remarkably robust, but the 4G63 was further beefed-up to withstand turbocharging conditions, perhaps with an error with the thrust bearing or details around it.
