what up everyone,
I recently bought a 93 eagle talon tsi awd. I was driving it recently and the car shut off and rolled to a stop. I tried to start it a few timeds with no luck. After taking it to my mechanic i found out my timing belt broke. So i figured i bent the valves and decided to replace the engine. I pick up a engine out of a 96 gsx. What all will i need to make it fit. My mechanic is saying the motor mounts are different. Any ideas on what I would have to do to make this work?

Only your valves are bent in the head, your bottom end is fine. Just replace the head or get the head rebuilt with new valves and probably guides (they might have cracked when the valves got bent).

ok where can I get the conversion kit at? My mechanic said the the motor mounts arent lined up at all. Where do you all suggest getting another motor from? Anyone had experience with tiger japanese?

Im not 100% positive the valves are bent because he didnt take the head off. Would there be any chance that they didnt bend?

The valves WILL be bent. These are interference engines- meaning that the valves and pistons occupy the same space. When the belt snaps, some of the valves will be open, depending on which cylinders are on the compression/combustion stroke and will be smashed by the pistons, resulting in a bent valve. Depending on the RPM you are at, there most likely won't be any damage to the pistons themselves.

Just tell the mechanic to take the head off and look at the valves. You can tell which ones are bent just by looking at them. A simple/cheap remedy is to go to the junkyard and get a 4g63 head from either a turbo or non-turbo 1g. If you get a non-turbo, you'll have to swap out the cams as the non-turbo cams have a different duration/ramp rate.

And to clear things up, DON'T waste your money on a "JDM" motor. They are identical to USDM ones, unless you happen to get an EVO motor, but those are harder to come by. They usually just end up being a 4g63 out of an RVR. If you're dead set on a new motor, get one from the junkyard.

The 2g block will not work, the front motor mount for 2g's are on the trans, 1g's are on the block. Like stated above, just replace the head.

Like the other guys said, your best bet is to just get your head rebuilt. Buy a new set of valves and valve seals, take it to a machine shop to get cleaned/decked/rebuilt. Get a new headgakset and timing belt. I'd also recommend new timing belt pulleys and auto tensioner while you're in there. Now would also be a time to do the balance shaft elimination mod if you'd like.

I having the mechanic take off the head now to make sure none of the pistons are cracked. When the car cut off I was coming to a light so I was slowing down. I notice I lost power around maybe 2500 rpm. So my guess now would be I dont have any cracked pistons. I tried a couple of times to try to turn start the engine again but it never worked. Would this by any chance cause the pistons to crack? Also if I jus need to replace the head would the mechanic be able to take the head off the 96 gsx engine and put it on the 93 engine?

ok here's what i did i have a 93 eclipse with a 95 talon 4g63 turbo'd, the front motor mount is a solid mount "manufactured by me" im not saying this is the best way or necessarily the safest but if you know your way around the welder you'll be fine. i have a plate which moved the front mount over about 2 inches then the tranny mount is flipped upside down to hold the motor at the correct hight (you will have to be forceful when closing your hood) the tranny mount is solid as well but thats not a necessity, this is a very possible swap and i believe it is worth the power of the 4g63, threw any specific questions you have at me and ill do my best. this swap took three years and that was with no help from forums because its hard to find people willing enough to endure this swap and i went though a couple bad motors as well. but its my daily driver now and its a 13 second car.
