Well I've always been kinda worried about the frame on my Laser being bent, it's been confirmed and it also has some other little things that I just think I could use my time on doing other "mods" and I've always wanted to get a VW so I've gotten ahold of a VW Rabbit and I WILL do a 4G63T AWD swap into the VW Rabbit. It's about 1500lbs lighter and fits 4 comfortably with trunk space :p Just hoping to get a consensus from you guys on how much of a job this might be? I've got a spare car and I will be able to pour my time and effort into the swap and have plenty of people I know who will help me to complete it. Now I just have to convince dad to let me rip a 4,500mile old motor and drivetrain and swap it into a shell with massive fabrication involved :hellyeah: Basically I'm looking at putting the Mitsubishi powerplant into this so I can have my VW buddies and my DSM friends

Go for it! Docment it, take lots of pictures, take your time and do it right!

With that said, obviously it wont be easy. You will have to fabricate and or adapt your wiring harness, and suspension. Motor mounts etc. shouldn't be that hard with some half decent fab skills.

Arent you the one getting a free paint job from the police? Why not just get another rolling chassis. I can give you ten thousand reasons why this is going to cost you more than you anticipate.

what kind of paint did you shoot the engine bay with if you don't mind me asking?

Yeah they told me that since my car had other damage (ie a primer front end conversion from a 92 Talon with flip up headlights) that I couldn't prove they caused the damage so they aren't gonna pay for anything and here where I live I can get ahold of probably 10 Free Rabbit shells in great condition before I could get ahold of a 1g shell in ok condition.

Well, taking off the roof rack was the first job.

:thumb: Not much of a roof rack person, it has a trunk for Christ's sake

It was just some Satin Black Krylon High Heat Paint from Wal*Mart. Bought 4 cans and used it all.

Id be throwing a fit. So he hits your car with several witnesses and they dont pay you anything at all? Thats a load of crap. OMG

Welcome to small town politics. I started pushing hard about that right after they refused to pay for any of the damage and I started being harassed daily by the cops around here. Getting pulled over for loud exhaust when I have the stock exhaust, pulled over for switching lanes on a bridge (still don't get that one), pulled over for having decals on my rear side windows (obstructing view WTF ), pulled over for turning onto a side road without first stopping, I got SO much crap from the cops that weren't even there that I just gave up because they were trying to shove hundreds of dollars of tickets into my face and the lawyers around here are in the game with them. The officers who witnessed it are pissed off about it and have even told me that I'm getting out of a few tickets in exchange for warnings because of it and even the officer who hit me got suspended from the force for 2 weeks not because he hit me but because he got into an altercation with the Chief Of Police over the fact that they weren't going to pay for the damage. I've given up on this town's morals and as soon as I get the chance after graduating I'm getting out of this town and looking for a place with at least some sort of morals in place. Sorry for the rant...again, but very few things really get me pissed off and this is one of those things.

Im pretty sure its be done atleast the motor, might surf vortex and see what comes up.

Chris, Lol.
This is gonna be such a pain in the ass, you have no idea.
But then again, you've suprised me before, but like I said, you must debadge the rabbit, and put mitsu symbols on it, that's the only way I am going to approve of it. THE ONLY WAY.
Also, since I know nothing about these cars, are they RWD?
If they are you'll probably finish this the same time I finish my AE86,

Formula D? :sneaky:

It will remain badged as a stock RabbitC with the only addition of AWD Turbo badges along the running boards to replace the original sticker that says "Rabbit". They are FWD, you will approve of it either way Scott, I am a VERY surprising person. I'm getting a 92 240SX to be my DD while I do the conversion after some persuasion  of my grandma for $500 in return for some work :sneaky: So I will have my RWD fix and my AWD Turbo fix...who needs FWD

Oh. Well get your Twofizzle up here, seriously. I need some motivation to finish my POS Rolla.
I already approve, just get a good paint job on this one? Okay? Lol.

Sounds like a fun conversion if it will work. Have you done any measurements to see if the engine and transmission will fit in the engine bay and still allow you to turn? Also, why not go with a Colt if one is available since we all know the '63T will fit in one?

Regardless, good luck and if you start posting the build elsewhere be sure to link it in this thread so I can follow it :)

Yes I have and it will. I'm dropping everything drive train, suspension, and motor wise under the Rabbit so it will set the wheels out a bit farther so I will get to do a custom widebody setup and probably move the strut housings out with the body so that I can keep a proper camber and still have that super aggressive look with the wider stance. I love VW's and I'm doing the Rabbit just because I've always wanted a turbo Rabbit and it will be the only AWD Turbo Rabbit in the world. We also own the First remote turbo 8V Jetta in the world and live 4hrs from one of the biggest VW Festival's in the US so I have plenty of support and drive to merge the two loves of my life as I want both a VW and a DSM. I will probably try to keep a build thread updated on the 3 forums I'm involved in regularly, here on DSMTuners, VWVortex Forums, and on MidSouthRacers Forums so that I can keep all interested parties up to date and if it gets enough interest I could always use the extra help/experience of countless others out there on the interwebs so the more I post it the better chance I have of learning some tips and tricks about hotrod swaps and all that jazz :thumb:

Look guys, if someone can put a C5 vett drive train in a civic. I am sure this can be done. The question is do you have the funds and skill to do it.

I say go for it man, this would be pretty bad ass!

Please put this in an A1/A2 jetta coupe. They are so much sexier than a rabbit.
