Hi, I'm new to dsmtuners and need some advice. Here's my situation...
I have about 6k and I'm looking for a 2g eclipse. Originally, I wanted the gst(for obvious reasons), but I found a nice rs with a STAR stage II kit on it. What would you guys recommend? Should I go with the gst or rs w/turbo?

Only reason to go 4G63 would be for AWD so it's really up to you, although I am partial to the 420a for obvious reasons.

Fluidyne radiator and a 3" cat-back, along with the FMIC that comes with the stage II kit. I think the internals are stock...

Ok, Here's something that most real tuners do... Dont go after an already moded car, unless you had a very big part in its life of modifications and know everything the cars been through. Cause seriously, a moded car... you know DAMN well that car has been beat on. The RS-T, most likely going to run pretty good for a while, but you'll probably start seeing things happening and soon enough you'll be in a swamp of problems you can't get out of! I did! This was my mistake on my 97, but I was desperate for another 2gnt. Same goes for the GST, if it has any sort of mods, hell even a Turbo Timer... I wouldn't want to touch it because you just have to wonder, how hard was this car beat on?

I think I speak for almost everyone here, if you want a good car... a reliable car, or a good car to fix up... Look for a CLEAN stock car... Something that a grandma had. 6 Grand? I paid 3500 for my 97, that was heavily overpriced. My friend Jessica just bought a 97 same color as mine, but with 76k miles on it and it is fully loaded with leather and the paint is mint... hell the entire car looks like it just came off the showroom floor... seats are stiff still... fog lights aren't even chipped! and she paid 3k for it! So seriously, you have enough money right now to buy a gorgeous stock eclipse and have alot of money left over to modify or start your mods list, the way YOU want it! Your Car, Your Style, Your Parts, Have it your way! LOL Burgerking!

Are you high? This :dsm: is who should have made your motor if you want a "reliable" turbo dsm.

ROFL

Also, the fwd turbo's are just fine.

And the Ratio of blown dodge motors to blown Mitsubishi motors is? LOL I'll just put it out there... Dodge ( Mitsubishi! Every 4G63 I've owned is dead! One died on me, the other was blown up from letting a friend drive it, and the other was sold running and blew up into a flaming ball of... well flames! I've only seen 2 420A's personally go under... and they both were victims of the same culperate, spun rod bearings. Actually the first one didn't blow up, I just threw in a diff motor for the hell of it. They had the money and it got me a block to build. The second one, they had a motor waiting to be put in so I had the pleasure of making it throw a rod! :D

So far the Dodge motors have been more reliable in my own personal opinion than 4G63's. Plus they are less abused then the 4G63's.

Plus read the stuff on HRC's website.. it works out very well... Why spend the extra cash to buy things your not going to use? Your eventually going to mod the turbo, ic... stuff like that... so why not save your cash, buy the NT.... and turbo it the way you want it. I belive thats why he's partial to the 2GNT

Because the 420a's have lots of problems. Look at my avatar. That is my FULLY BUILT 420a. I've had WAY more problems out of it than I have my 93 TSI AWD. If you want something that is already quick and RELIABLE, get the stock turbo car. That car could have been beat up (RS-T) and you are buying a lot of someone else problems? Why buy a car when you are going to upgrade the stuff you ask? Because it WILL hold the power much more reliably than a STOCK 420a. Sure, spend the 3k for a turbo kit, build your 420a (another 2-5K). Have your 300whp. Spend 7k in a GST/X and you will have a ten second car. Unlike your 12-13 second 420a.

Ok ok, we don't need another 420A vs. 4G63 thread. Many people will have different experiences with different platforms. Just because you had a bad experience doesn't mean one platform is better than another. For all we know, it could've been something you did wrong... not something inherently wrong with the engine.

Do some research, and make an informed decision on your own.
