420a trans vs. neon 3 speed trans

ok i have a 99 gs 420a a/t. im leaveing it a/t for sure, and i plan to comletely biuld whichever trans i go with untill its race ready! ok, heres my question, should i stay with the auto trans thats in the car now, or switch to the 3 speed auto thats found in the neon. keep in mind im just asking which of these transmisions will preform the best when they are completely moded to the max! o by the way i have a boosted aplication if that makes any difference!:thumb: thanx for any help!
 
its really not about power all together im looking to make the most power at the wheels through the auto trany, thats the real challenge here! but at the crank im looking to make about 400hp.:shhh:

I used to run a modded up neon when I was younger, I went through about 3 transmissions before I decided to get rid of the car. just cant take alot of abuse, seemed like I would get about 6 months out of the tranny (did alot of racing) before it would start slipping again.:notgood: just my experience, others may be different. the last neon tranny I ripped out of the car I decided to take it apart and see what kept happening. The thing was built like absolute crap, dinky little parts and lots of plastic. plus it's not a great tranny for racing the gearings pretty tall. just my .02
 
There are alot of guys here running auto trans that are pushing some pretty impressive numbers, the stock trans is not a bad way to go, maybe get a full rebuild on it with a upraded valve body and maybe a high stall torque converter and some trick shift (personal favorite) thats how I personaly would go if I were running an auto.
 
Sorry for bringing up a ancient thread... But I have been searching and searching, and can not find any good info... I was told that the A670 which is the neon 3 speed when built it can be pretty much bullet proof... Built right that is... Besides the axles that may need some modifying what else is needed to make this swap work... Also i know about the taller gears and all that other stuff I plan on boosting and I'm looking for around 350 whp is my goal.. I spoke to IPT they told me the A604 can only handle about 315hp... Thats with me being nice to it, also I'm staying auto for my personal reasons....
