420A 420a stock rebuild 300hp

stock rods have been proven up to around 200whp. If you bent one chances are you had a problem elsewhere that caused this.

You said you "went against going 2.4"... How exactly did you plan on stroking out your 420a? LOL

Wow let's try and explain it to you this way.
Let's say you can bench 100 but your max
Is 150 and then let's say I told you to lift
150 all day 7 days a week 365 days a year
Its the same concept yes they can Handel the
Power but for how long pull you butt out of
That hat you have on and take some of these
Well informd people's advice it's not like
Were a bunch of vo tec kids but your going to
Do what ever you got your head set on and were
Not going to hear from you for after a month
So good luck on the build I hope I'm wrong

Merry Christmas

I am just trying to warn you stock rods are crap. Where have you been informed that stock rods hold "x" amount of horsepower? If you read it then it could be an educated guess and if the rods have miles, they could wear out! I am no mechanic but, in my opinion if you are gonna go 100 hp over stock you would be wise to get your rods replaced that's all.. If you read on the forums people often state that, "the rods and pistons are the weak link on the 420A" Just trying to help.

My car's rod was bent due to wear and tear, That I was told by a mechanic at the local machine shop after he checked the balance on my crank... just sayin' good luck.

It's not stroking it out, its a 2.4L swap out of the cloud cars. becoming a fairly common swap.

EDZ 2.4L bottom end, 420A head, SRT oil pan, pump, tensioner, (there are a few options on this, but the pump you use decides what oil pan you use), and a few other tweaks and you have one bad ass motor.

You can even use SRT rods and pistons as well if you rotate the piston 180 degrees on the rod so the valve recesses are faced properly and the oil squirter on the rod body faces the right way.

The OP even mentioned it was a swap, not a stroker kit.

It's a swap i'm considering when i decide to build my N/T.

So i wouldn't make a smart comment on a 420A question unless you know what your talking about.

I just got done with my 420a build back to stock. I had strut tower rust so I bought a shell with a blown 420aquestion that was boosted. It had sealed power pistons and a 16g on it when it blew and I don't know what boost level was being used though. The rings were gone on 2and 4 but pistons were all reusable. The rods were fine also. I think he had to much advance and melted the rings. I don't know if theyvwere stock rings or sealed power rings but don't use them. Hope this helps. I think if u take the money your gonna put in the motor and just get a nice suspension setup and sound system it will be a funner more enjoyable dd. Honda's I never understood you people.

Any more info on this swap?

stock rods can hold up to 12lbs our pistons are weak. our rods too but they are stronger than the piston.

Sorry to say but, in my opinion the stock rods barley support stock.. I am tearing down my engine and my rod in cyl number 1 in bent pretty bad and, this car has low miles, with 0 mods.

So Winter is on the horizon which can mean only one thing....BUILD TIME!!! This will be my first DSM build. I'm pretty excited. I came from the Honda world (single cam non-vtec :hellyeah:) and I miss it but it's time for something new.

Well I've done a fair amount of homework and I have just a couple questions about the 420a bottom end. If you post in my thread about selling this car and buying another one you will be reported and your comment will be removed. BTW I have decided against going the 2.4 route for this build. Maybe next time...:hmm:

I hear the stock rods do pretty well to around 300hp but the pistons don't hold up well. So I was thinking about getting Sealed Power pistons and Hastings rings for the rebuild.

I hear that this combo has held about 350hp reliably. Any truth to this? This seems like the way I want to go, I'm only shooting for around 250-275 hp with a HAHN s16g. These pistons are stock compression and I am thinking about milling the head a little bit and go 9.8:1-10.0:1 C/R so I still have plenty of bottom end. I know what kind of tuning this entails, don't tell me to go lower, I don't want piss poor performance down low. Will be in an automatic daily driver.

Seem like a good route? It's not terribly expensive and I even got the fresh rebuilt turbo with 0 miles and the HAHN manifold for $150. I'm basically asking for any FIRST HAND EXPERIENCES OR A LINK TO ONE concerning these pistons or rods since I didn't find one on this site (but I didn't look that hard:) ). There isn't even a 420a engine building thread

Also, does anyone have anything to say about their stage 1 head job/port or their cams or their reman cranks?

EDIT (11/14): Found out that Sealed Power pistons are made out of the same material/process as the SRT4 pistons. Also that 2g Neon R/T rods (SOHC Magnum motor) are actually the strongest out of the 420a/Neon swappable bottom ends. They are made out of the same material as the SRT rods which will hold 400-500hp. This wouldn't be a bad route to go if I could find the rods.[/QUOTE]
1&4 stock motor a few bolt ons
