I have a stock 420A N/T engine and would like to install a turbo. What would I have to upgrade before I can install the turbo, or can I install without blowing out the engine. I am installing a CAI in a few days its in the mail (AEM). Everything else in the car is stock.

well for your information, the cai will be useless if you go turbo. anyway, you can bolt on a kit to a stock engine no problem, and if you leave the boost where it is your engine should be just fine. and aftermarket exhaust is a big + for a turbo. but you can bolt a kit onto a stock engine. its after you catch the boost bug and start cranking it up is when you get problems

the CAI wont be useless, you can hack it like im going to do to make it into an intake for your turbo :thumb: Im so creative :sneaky:

well hahn and star kits already come with an intake, so i think it would be a better idea to sell the cai and use the kit's intake then hack up and ruin the cai.

h enever specified if he would be getting a kit thank you very much.... ;)

well, judging by his post we can assume his mechanical apptitude isnt quite high enough to make his own kit, which would mean he's buying one thank you very much :p

if your gonna go with a kit then dont do anything other than put on a aftermarket exhaust, 3" or 2.5" exhaust system, or build up the bottom end. Other things you can put on yrou car that wont need to be pulled off when you go turbo are a Underdrive pulley, screamin demon coil pack, plug wires, SAFC or a Megasquirt( which is another topic in itself), ported throttle body, etc., etc.

Now is that enough help?????? since we are so useless.

i think the real answer that he's lookin for is.......the max boost your engine could pry handle is 10 psi (but the life of the engine will probably decrease fast)....8psi is pushin it....most people stay around 5-7 psi.....once you start wanting to boost more is when you will need to start looking into upgrades like bigger injectors, bottom end kit, etc.

thank you. this is what I was looking for

another question, newbie but fits this thread, y woudlt he cai be useless with the turbo?

because turbo kits come with their own intake

not to mention that the turbo will heat the air up so much going into the engine
wether or not you have an intercooler that the 1-2 degrees of cooling that a CAI is good for is practically worthless
spend the money on something that will do some good when you do go turbo
UDP, towards an exhaust etc

sry if i was unclear i wanted to know if i put a turbo on my engine would it be blown out, which now i know the answer is no if i keep it low, giving me the psi amounts (for each risk factor?) let me know how much psi my engine can handle and was the icing on the cake. :) thx

ok i see... and this cake you speak of only sweetens the deal :sneaky:

but next time you have a question, search here and 2gnt.com until your eyes bleed. most questions have been asked a million times and answered a million times. if you still cant find an answer then feel free to ask. :thumb:

would the difference between 3 and 2.5 be big enough to look for a 3, because I found a 2.5 at a local junkyard from a wrecked car, only needs a muffler

**EDIT** sry hit enter and it submitted, but the exhaust is a Hayame catback off a non turbo gs

3in exhauts will give you a quicker spool, but if you can find the 2.5in exhaust for cheap and you arent to worried bout spool time then go for it. you can always put together a custom setup and have some one weld it together for you, thats what im doing cause im not dropping 5-600 bucks on an exhaust setup.
