Ok guys I need your help, I recently bought a 96 Eclipse for 1k, but to my surprise, mostly because I wasn't paying attention. I found out it's got the 420A insted of the 4g63 and to my dismay, I also found out I can't swap it out for a 4g63 either. So now my question to you guys is this. Are there any good after market turbos and performance parts I can get for this thing. If not, it will become my daily driver while I rebuild the 4G63T in 94 Talon TSI AWD. Please leave me some links if possible.

Thanks in advance

First of all the search engine is your best resource here. Us it like it is you own and you will see how many post come up asking the same question you asked. Second yes there are kits availible just do a search and you will find them easily. But if you bought the car and didn't even know if it was a turbo model or not the turbo kit will be far from your ability to install so please seek some help before attemping it for you own and the cars sake. Not flaming you or anything so don't take offense. It just seems you don't have alot of experience in DSM's.

DSM's NO I don't, Chevorlets just about everything, born and raised on Chevy's LOL
and no offense taken.

Well with stock internals you can only run about 5-6 psi on the 420a. Also, you should do lots of researching before you dive head first into a dsm...because you dont want to do something and later read it was a mistake to do it. Trust me, weve all done it.

well since you asked, if your goal is to obtain a 4g63 than save your cash & buy one, the 420a ( i have one ) is reliable stock so you can drive it daily save a ton on gas money cause the turbos will eat you alive kinda. This allows you to have a good reliable DD & dont forget still a sweet looking car, then you buy your GSX or TSI or what ever & you my friend have 2 DSM"s 1 for DD & 1 for kicking ass on the weekends saving the miles & wear on your turbo & what not. that is just my opinion, & IF YOU DONT LIKE THAT THEN..........sell me your NT... :thumb: good luck

I already have 2 DSM's, I have and currently drive my 94 Talon TSI AWD, and just bought a 96 Eclipse GS, how ever my talon will be going down in about 2 months to install the newly rebuilt 4G63T that my brother is currently rebuilding for me, with a fresh 16G turbo, and I'm have the transfer case, trany, driveshaft and diff rebuild, that I pulled out my friends totaled TSI AWD.

first of all on stock internal 8psi is what it can handle and thats usually the most. 9 is the argument but 8 is the most heard of. Yes there is many parts avaible and many write up on doign the turbo install. I have 400 dollars into my set up so far and thats with free fuel pump and injectors and BOV. Man coming from a kid. Its work man you need another car while that one's out and problems occure constantly. So many minor things you wouldent remember to get while your at the home depot 2 towns over. Rebuilt the TSI.....awd power man ALLLL WHEELLL DRIVVEEE. You will be itching for a faser ABOVE 8 damn psi car. Do it while you can. Use the eclipse as a daily and to run to the store to get those last minute crap peices. Please man do the tsi pleeasseee.........you will get so much more out of it. Then you can come back here after its done and be happy with it.:thumb: :rocks:

The TSI is the only one getting done, I just want to get a little more bang out the 96, it already has an AEM cold air intake on it, and I haven't gotten to far into yet. The tensioner froze and the timing belt came off so the head will have to be redone. Thats the reason I got the car for 1k. The kids dad didn't want to spend the $2200 the dealer wanted to fix it.

I beleive you CAN swap a 95-99 4g63 into your car, but you have to swap the motor/tranny/ecu for sure, im not sure about the axles, there is another motor that bolts "right in" is the 2.5 liter v6 out of the chrysler sebring or the dodge avenger, these are not as easy as putting in a 420a, but depends on what you really want, if you dont want to do a full "swap" *motor/tranny/some wiring" then you might want to stick with your 420a!

The 420a is staying just like it is, I just want a little more power out it. I will put headers on it, and maybe some under drive pulley, a good tune up ect. but other then that it will remain stock. The TSI on the other hand that's a whole different story in it self, I'm shooting for 3 to 400HP from, all depends on how far I push it without blowing the CA smog out the window.

Oh, I not saying you guys are wrong because I really don't know, but on my customers is Mitus tech, in Concord CA, and he told me the 420 can't be swapped for the 4g63, because the face opposite directions. timing belt onthe 4g63 faces driver side, and the 420 on the passenger side. Now this only what he told me.

You can swap any engine into any car, but what you just proposed would be highly cost prohibitive. Swapping a 4G63 (any 4G63, not just from a 2G) into a 420A car requires a new engine, ECU, wiring harness, injectors, fuel rail, manifolds, accessories and belts, cooling system, AC lines and condenser, and pretty much the whole drivetrain (tranny, axles, and then some). Doing this swap also requires custom motor mounts to be fabricated. The total cost of the project would be more than the value of the car itself.

As for the Chrysler swap you mentioned, I think you're talking about the 2.4L 420A from the Stratus, Cirrus, Breeze, etc. of similar years. This is one of the swaps many of the more experienced 2GNTers undertake in order to increase engine displacement while retaining the features of the 420A (newer design, more efficient components, greater potential for power after proper modifications, etc.). For this, however, motor mount, accessory bracket, and oil pan fabrication is required. It isn't for the faint of heart, so do your research.

Damn I'm really glad I found this forum, you guys really now your shiznit. LOL. The 96 will stay stock, I might even fix it and turn around sell it, and get something better, what do you guys think, Keep in mind that I already have a 94 TSI AWD, but there nothing wrong with another right.
