420A engine. Anyone know of any websites for a crate engine/low mileage engine

My RS is screwed and I am not going to buy another car. I need to know of any websites where I can buy an engine. It can be a crate engine, or just a used engine website. Thanks for any info.

My suggestion. Crate Motor from HowellAutomotive there 2.2L stroker is supposed to be nice. Or you could just take your motor in the car now and have it rebuilt at a machine/engine shop. Good Luck.

I know this is an old thread, but I have the same question. I have a 97 Eagle Talon ESI, (that I bought new 22 years ago and use as a daily driver. Car is completely stock and I have had to do very few repairs in all that time. Well this past week I lost compression in cylinder 4 and according to the mechanic it's "dead", so I'm looking at a rebuild or replacement.

I contacted Howell Automotive as was suggested but they do not rebuild the 420A motors. Can anyone recommend another company they'd trust to buy a crate motor from?
I may just let the local shop do a rebuild (I'm currently waiting on a quote) but not sure if that was the best way to go or not. I have no intention of selling the car and would like to get it back on the road, however since I'm married with two young kids budget it definitely a consideration. Thanks in advance for your help!

Did you ever find a crate engine for you 97 talon? I am now searching for a 98 eclipse gs 420a 2.0L. As a California resident, I need it to pass state emissions. With 270,000 original miles, ol' girl is tired and needs an uplift. Any Los Angeles shops willing to do a rebuild or have a crate engine available?

No I didn't find anything that would work for me. Once I factored in the cost of a decent new motor and then all the things that needed TLC on the car I made the tough choice to park it. I'm now considering posting it someplace to sell. It was a tough choice to make but I was in a time crunch to get something to drive back and forth to work. I hope you have better luck than I did.

Sorry to hear that you may have to part away from it. If it was an 98 or 99 Eclipse GS, I might have made you an offer for spare parts. At the moment I am still looking for a used 2.0L. I may have found (2), thanks to @spyderdrifter by calling LKQ. I had never heard of these salvage yards, but they confirmed that they have them and that I would have to pull the engine out. Either way, wish you luck on which ever way you decide to go. At the moment, I really want to restore the Eclipse for my son's high school graduation in 2021.
