I made the stupidest mistake!!!I never pulled a 420A crank ever. After I removed the main bolt and looked at the pully, there apeared to be a seam where the shaft seperated from the pully.after searching the threads I saw a picture of a 420A pully and saw that it wasn't a seam it was part of the pully.I put a hardend nut between the puller and the pully and started up the air gun.I was actually pulling against the pully!!!what a dumb assThere are a few things you can use:
- 6-8" 1/4" extension ( a 3/8" drive WILL NOT WORK, it will catch on the threads and ruin them.. ask me how I know)
- Buy a bolt that is about 1" longer than the stock crank bolt (6-8in)
- Any rod that is smaller than the bolt hole and doesn't
- Do you have the insert that comes with the puller? If you need to make it a it longer then just find a 1/4" drive socket that will fit in there to extend it a little
I'm not sure if you rented a puller or not, but O'reileys, AdvancedAuto, etc all should have the puller with the inserts
thank you so much whom ever put that picture up!!I relized I had to put a solid shaft through the whole to get this pully off.I ended up using a old, dull drill bit that fit right in the whole.I grinded off the pointed end of the bit, then I used a hardened socket between the bit and the puller.Alittle heat and it came right off!Wow! I didnt think you could jack the motor up that high without breaking any wires or fittings, ect.I just cut 2 v-cuts through the metal and pulled the metal down with pliers.I'll weld them back up later at work.Any how,I got the plastic cover off and I'm trying to figure out howw to release tension to take off the belt.Any ideas?Ill start searching through the threads.
Just remove the bolts... It's not under high tension -- it won't snap back and kill you or anything.I got it.I stuck a drill bit through it.I Know it seems like I'm asking alot of questions ,but I'm trying to do all this work, the easyiest way possible. My wrist is still broken. They took out all 6 screws 2 weeks ago and slapped a cast on my arm.So I'm trying to do all this with basically one hand.VelocitàPaola;152787087 said:Just remove the bolts... The timing belt replacement guide on 2GNT suggests putting a small nail or pin in the tensioner first, but I found it easier to just compress it in my bench vise.
