On my 95 GS, I currently have an icemain CAI, and its currently connected to the crankcase ventilation. I have been seeing a lot of people talking about taking that tube off and replacing it with a air breather on the crankcase. my question is, does this actually benifit anything? Also, how to I plug up the hole on my intake where the hose used to go?? any info would be great.

thanks....

It keeps oil out of the intake tract and prevents the crankcase from being pressurized if the engine is turbocharged.

so in your opinion, would this be a good idea to put onto my car? If so, im not sure how to plug that hole in my intake pipe.

Unless oil is entering your intake, I would not worry about it, IMO.

You have more of a chance of blow by when you turbo your car. This blow by is basically oil spitting out the pcv (breather) and into your intake which intern goes into your intake mani and your head. Think about oil spitting into your intake and making it dirty and entering your combustion chamber rather than all nice fresh cold air...ahhh, doesn't that sound nice.

I wouldn't worry too much about it now, I would invest in a aem bypass valve for that cai so you don't suck up water. I sucked up water in my bimmer and had to have the motor replaced. Didn't wanna do it myself. Insurance covered it though!

sorry to jump in with a different but related question... but it seems like a good place.

when I turbo my motor, I plan on putting a little air breather on the crankcase ventilation tube as eclipse0508 is talking about. however, is it a good idea or bad idea to cap the pcv valve? I bought my motor from a friend who was running the hahn kit and he said he capped the pcv, but didn't say why. As of now while still NA I have my stock pcv on.

Bad idea.

The blowby will have nowhere to go, and your oil will foul quicker.

Just a warning since this happened twice to me now, don't but a breather on, looks nice but if you melt a piston the valvecover gets pressurized and shoots oil all over your engine, not a pretty site!!! This time I am just going to get some braided line and run it down towards the ground. maybe attach a filter down there.

And if you melted a piston, oil on your engine is a concern?

I would definetly be more worried about the pain of pulling my motor again after something stupid. What's a little oil, your cleaning the whole thing before your done!
