3000gt sway bars

I was wondering if 3000gt sway bars are interchangeable with the 1st gen. Since the suspension is the same, could they be used in a 1st gen. It would open up more choices for our cars. It would be ok if it needed a few modds for the install.

Aren't the 3kgt's wider than our cars?
I know I have read of guys swapping in a 3kgtvr4 rear dif but they had to custom fit the axles because they were too long.

A little bit of talk on it but yeah the car is wider so I'm sure the sway bar is wider by a couple inches.

I measured a 3000gt on the rack
front 43 1/2"
rear 49"
The same as my 1gen
This can really open up opportunities for our cars

Now this would only pertain to 3000GT VR4's and Stealth TT's as being compatible. If we could use this rear sway on our 1G's it would be a huge win, and an economical upgrade. I'm real interested in this!

For what it's worth, I have a buddy who has a VR4 rear sway he's sending me. I'll take whatever measurements necessary, as well as test fit the sway since my subframe is out while I blast/paint/install poly bushings. I post pics and specs once I get it this week.

My 92 3KGT VR4 rear sway bar arrived today. After a quick visual comparison, the bends and bushing placement are very similar. I venture to assume that it should bolt in to a 1G AWD subframe with no problem, but I won't know till I try. The issue will likely be the location of the end links, the width of a 1G AWD rear sway bar is 49.75" and the 3KGT VR4 is 52.125", so that will be an obstacle. The thickness of a 1G AWD rear sway bar is 20MM, and the 3KGT VR4 is 22MM.

The car I checked out was I guess was a 95. They were installed on the car so I am guessing again that could have been compressed measurements . I measured from the sway bar ends on the front and rear.

You said you measured 1" thickness for the rear sway, so I wonder if they had different sizes sways on different years or if this car in particular had aftermarket sways on it? I would also be interested if the 4WS on the VR4's made a difference in the stock sway bar sizes. I'll have to research what aftermarket size sway bars are available for the 3KGT VR4.

I was thinking though, even with the thickness of the sway bar I got used (22MM) I could move the mounting hole for the end link inwards which should also increase the stiffness much like an aftermarket bar and keep me from having to fab a mounting location on the trailing arm for the end link to mount to.

Stock 3000GT VR4 sway bar measurements; front 23MM, rear 22MM. The aftermarket sway bars available all seem to be 1 1/8" front, and 1" rear.
