My friend has a 1994 3000GT and for the past couple of weeks we have been trying to figure out what is going on with the car (other than it being tempermental). It seems that every now and again when he starts the car, it will start then drop well below 1000 rpm, and die. What is really wierd is that when we turn on the A/C it kkeeps the car running because having the A/C on requires the car to run at a higher rpm of course. But we have checked the car, and came up with a few ideas. Let me know if i am way off base though.

1. The throttle cable is not tight, there is some play when the car is idling. Since I have never had a 3000GT, i don't know if that is normal or not. We are thinking of moving the bracket up to make the throttle cable tight. Unsure though.

2. His dual exhaust might be clogged, going bad, etc.

3. Either not getting enough fuel (from the throttle cable or otherwise), not getting enough air, or both.

Other than that, we have know idea what it could be, it is a serious mystery now. :barf:
If you guys could throw out some ideas that would be great though. Thanks! :thumb:

Sound's like a bad TPS(throttle position sensor). What you need to do is get an analog voltmeter and a chiltons manual for the car and follow the instruction to test the TPS. In the manual there will be a certain amount of resistance that the tps should have when at the fully closed position. Then have someone get in the car with the ignition OFF and hit push the gas pedal lightly to work the throttle open and closed. the meter should move according to the throttle and it's position. Another thing to check is for carbon buildup in the thottle body. this will restrict the airflow passing through the throttle body. remember when doing the test on the tps the ignition switch must be turned OFF!! Good luck
