Hey guys,

Recently on a trip to Wisconsin, my car started sputtering really bad and ran like crap. I took it into a shop and they found theres no compression in cylinder 1. Also the spark plug grounding electrode was burned right off. They said it sounds like the exhaust valves are burned up, but can't be sure unless they tear the head off. And it would cost $1,000 for them to pull the head and replace it, plus how ever much to replace the valves.

I'm not too interested in paying that much to have them do that.

Question #1: Anyone have an estimate how much it would cost, and whats all involved doing it myself?

Question #2: Anyone in the twin cities/western WI have a flatbed I could borrow or rent for a weekend to tow it back?

Question #3: If I sold my car as is, how much do you think I could get for it. Heres the specs:

1995 Eclipse GSX
125,000 miles
stock turbo - no shaft play at all
Greddy UICP and LICP
1g uncrushed BOV
Injen Intake
Elite Autosport boost controller
Blitz fiberglass front bumper (cracked)
97-99 poly rear bumper
Projector headlights
97-99 5-spoke rims with new tires
Autometer Autolite gauges in 3 gauge pillar: Boost, A/F, and 1 open spot
Indiglo HUD gauges
Brembo Vented/Slotted rotors
Burned out exhaust valves - rest of motor good condition

Thanks for reading, and hopefully helping!

First off price around. No way that should cost 1k to do all of that work. Hell if I wasn't leaving soon I would come do it for about 200. It take's about 3 1/2 hours for me to do a full head swap. Start to finish even with timing. I would keep the car and shop around a bit. Tell shops that "Well another shop quoted me this so I will just go there." They will immediately drop there price on the quote. Get the quote in writing as well. Doing it yourself isn't that hard. Just read up on it on www.vfaq.com. That is the page I used the first time I did mine and it helped every step of the way.
