Does the Megan 3" Downpipe bolt up to the stock o2 housing? I've got an exhaust leak in the flex section of my stock DP and have read tons of great reviews on the Megan Exhaust systems.

BTW, i'm already aware of the *fixed* DP, and to make sure i get it from a credible source.

Yes,it does.. i have the megan DP,and i ported my 02 housing to about 2,5 inches, the DP looks like it has a 2,5inch flange because it bolted up fine, and the flex section clears the oilpan . i also welded in a second bung for my WBO2 and noone at work believed me when i told them what the DP costs.. im pleased, its still shiney like from day 1.

I was also thinking of getting one. Upgrading to a 14b here in the next few weeks, you guys think i would get decent gains from a new downpipe? Also im guessing slowboy/dsmparts all now have the "fixed" one that bolts up to the stock exhaust?

you might have problems trying to get a socket on the nuts since the 3" pipe is so big

but you can make it work. i did.

I got my MR downpipe from a certain well-known shop about 2 months ago. I was assured that I would get the revised version by an employee. I didn't.
Feel free to PM me if you want to know which shop it was.

The older version does not fit the O2 housing studs without modding, and the rear flange on it is rotated about 45 degrees from lining up with the catback's flange. It's been a major PITA and is still not on the car.

Consider yourself warned.

PM me if you want to know where I got mine for a good price, and the new version. The o2 atmosphere should be sweet, probably loud though. It would be good depending on what your car is going to be used for.

Underground Motorsports http://www.undergroundmotorsports.com/downpipes/mitsubishi.html, they're a licensed MR Dealer and carry the new revised edition of the MR DP for $110.

Calreef... what'd you pay for yours and where'd you get it from??

95carboneclipse, that's the place I got it from, good price, pretty cheap on shipping even to the west coast, it ended up being under 150 if I remember right.

Looks like it should be a pretty decent deal for me then, im in Missouri, so not far away. May also grab the megan strut tower bar while im ordering. They also have a cheap FPR but guessing its junky?

Now I really feel hosed. I paid 150 plus shipping. :tease:

I've been overting my eyes whenever I see anything I want that costs some money, but this looks tempting.

That UM DP site shows a 2.5" inlet for the GST DP but a 3" inlet for the GSX DP. I know there are differences between FWD and AWD exhausts, but I don't know if the DP is different. I have stock (ported) O2 and can port the outlet to 2.5, but I doubt there's enough material to port to 3".

Will the 2.5" inlet GST model work on an AWD (or does anyone know if you can port a 2g O2 to 3" safely and if it has the same flange bolt pattern as the 3" inlet DP)? I wasn't planning on a new O2 housing.

Also, does it bolt up to the stock exhaust? I'm on a budget, so doing the whole exhaust at this point isn't an option (without wife-consequences), but this 100% stock exhaust is KILLING my spool and top end boost.

Any other issues in the future with this DP when I get funds for the catback?

Good info in this thread. Thanks guys!

I have a GSx and the DP is 2.5'' for about an inch, then it opens op to 3'' Its like that so it can bolt to the stock o2 houseing. As for the bolting up, I had mine welded to my resinator, but it had flanges on the end to bolt to the cat.
If your worried about your wife knowing, the DP didnt make my car louder untill 5000K+

I'm pretty sure she wouldn't notice the sound factor even if he took the exhaust completely off... it's the bank account factor that she'd trip on.

...stop me when I lie. ROFL

Well, it's the $600 for a 3" turboback with cat. $150 for the DP now and the rest in pieces later (if possible) is how I can do it (eat $1 burritos for lunch for a couple of weeks, and I can save up $100 :sneaky:) ;)

I still don't understand how a 3" DP can bolt up to a 2.25" cat flange. Is the reduction in the adapter piece?

So the revised 2g AWD DP goes from 2.5" to 3" and bolts straight up to the stock O2? That's what I need...as long as it bolts to the stock cat, too, I'm "golden".

Check this thread to find out a ton of info on the new "fixed" 3" DP from MR.

I already linked that same thread 2 posts prior.

So I did just purchase a MR DP from Slowboy and I think it is the previous version. I tried hooking it up to my car and its 3" too short and I couldnt get the bolts on the O2 housing. Also the flange is off by quite a few degrees. You said in a recent thread that it is going to require some modding. What exactly do I need to do? Kind of made me mad.

The missing 3" length is probably because you removed the adaptor pipe that goes between the cat to the catback.

For the O2 flange:
You could grind the pipe near the O2 flange so you can fit the nuts on the existing studs or you can cut off the studs and drill 2 holes further out on the housing to match the dp and use the supplied bolts.

For the rear flange:
The easiest would be to cut the pipe near the rear flange, line everything up correctly and tack weld it. Then remove the pipe and lay down a nice thick weld all the way around the pipe. Or you could just cut the pipe and use a pair of slip-fit exhaust clamps tightened down over a rolled up piece of sheet metal over the cut.
