Hey guys, I am just asking for everyone's opinion about me getting:
1) an apexi downpipe 2.5 inches from flex to 3 inch after, keep stock piping after cat and weld on a 2.5" inlet muffler with a 4" outlet.

OR

2) Get a crush bent system custom made 3" cat-back with my muffler and stock down pipe.

What would you guys choose with my stock t-25 and stock everything else set up?

P.S: Don't be an asshole when replying. WTF

r u looking to upgrade the turbo?
why not get a downpipe and exhaust at the same time? money issues?
I would personally get a megan racing, or RRE downpipe.
I wouldnt do either to be honest. I have had crush bent systems done and their just not worth it. I had problems with welds breaking, hangars breaking, exhaust moving and hitting other parts.:notgood: I would get a pre-made catback exhaust and be done with it. Do it right the first time. Not to sound like an A hole but what would the point of getting a bigger downpipe but then keep the stock piping after that? If you decide to get a cat back exhaust go with whatever your preference is shop around, listen to sound clips, ask people what they like(its all personal preference). I like my meagan racing 3" exhaust. Then after that get a downpipe after you decide what turbo you want to go with. Again personal preference on the downpipe. I like my RRE short downpipe. Hope this helps a little bit. I can help you with whatever you decide to do.dsm:thumb:

I am planning to keep the stock t-25 and yes I can't upgrade the whole system because of money issue. And I was just deciding between those two because if I go the 3 inch cat-back system, aren't I just going to get sound only?

If I go the other route with the bigger DP and weld and exhaust tip on, aren't I going to have a quicker boost response?

But anyway I am just looking for you guy's opinion and I do know it is all personal preference and 97gstjosh thanks for the post.

There really is little purpose in getting a 3" cat back without doing the whole system. It is even less effective to do a 3" dp without the rest of the system.

The point of the 3" is to let the exhaust out as fast as possible. With a 3" dp going to a 2.5" cat, or the exhaust system after, you will have the same back pressure created by the narrowing of the pipes.

The larger exhaust after the cat will result in a little pressure release by allowing the gases to vent faster behind the cat and you may see an improvement in performance.

The question you should ask yourself is, "Would this same amount of money improve another part of my vehicle and its performance?"

If you are going to keep the t-25 then its all in prefrence. The catback will help but you should just do it all at once. Try ebay. Its all up to you ya know. go all apexi, all megan, mix it up whatever. If you want the full effect get a downpipe, cat back exhaust, high flow cat/test pipe, and port your O2 housing or get an aftermarket one. I had a SLS atmosphere dump O2 housing that was good.

Looks like you're for the cat-back exhaust. :thumb: That's a 1 for 1

Yeah if moneys tight just start with that and work your way towards the engine. In the end itll be noticable. You wont much if anything at all from it but in the end itll all be good. I went $6,000 in debt in 1 month to buy everything I have listed in my mods and it sucks paying it back.(It was worth it though):rocks:

my suggestion is a 3in turbo back exhaust with a ported o2 dump or an aftermarket one. the sound is beautiful and the 3in downpipe is a good thing to have if you have future plans to mod this car out

you can get a 3" stainless steel turbo back for your 2g fwd for ~$350 brand new SHIPPED, from ebay. Really no excuse these days. There is a thread regarding these exhaust. I have had personal experience with them, and they are just fine. Really have no room for complaints because of the price.

Mandrel bent, SS piping, 1 or 2 resonators (i forgot), with N1 muffler and removable silencer included, all new bolts and gaskets. 2.5" before flex, 3" all the way after, downpipe necks down to 2.75" (NOT 2.25 or 2.5 as some other brand names or people think it goes to), and catback again starts at 2.75". I really doubt the .25" will make a difference, but if you feel it does, bring it to a shop. Fitment is great BTW, all stock hanger locations in place and work just fine.

Get it all at once and install it all at once. It will save you time in the future IMO. Again

If there was a dsm meet soon, I'll bring my uncle's car which we put in the very same turbo back I speak of, and you'll be amazed at what $300 got us.

Before you put it on, bring it to that shop with the chinese lady that our other fellow norcal dsmer suggested to weld a cat, if you don['t want to worry about smog. You're set. It's even bunged already for rear o2 sensor.

Actually, here is the ebay exhaust thread:

http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=250603&page=10&highlight=ebay+exhaust

many satisfied customers. I have posted my experience and pics of the system as well. somewhere in that very informative thread.

Read through that thread, by the end, you'll most likely be sold. :) Unless your just a name brand junkie :p

Shops around here are outrageous, but some places they are much cheaper than the pre-built/bent when you add the shipping costs. You'll have to do your homework to find the best deals.

And yes, if you do not have the money for a full system and don't want to run up the credit cards (or sell your soul, if you still have one), then I would vote for the cat-back.

What people are trying to say is don't waste your money on getting a cat back or down pipe right now. SAVE and do the whole thing at once. It's not that hard.

if i were you id leave the stock exhaust with the t-25 i just upgraded to a big 16 and ive got a 3inch cat with stock down pipe let me say this my car was faster with the 13b because it spooled right up ive got massive lag i order a full apexi exhaust. if your going to upgrade do the entire thing in one shoot and if you going to go 3inch might want to consider creep and what you need to do to keep it from happening

If money is tight, you can get a muffler shop to make you a custom exhaust. Depending on shop, the quality should be much better than ebay items
I woulnt go to a muffler shop, I dont care how good they say they are its all crush bent:notgood:

The ebay exhausts are nice i was looking at this one for awhile

Im just a brand name whore, I cant help it.
Do what you want though again all personal preference with exhaust componets. I you dont want to save it all up dont order it piece by piece then put it all on.:rocks:
