I have a '93 TSi AWD with a 90-91 6 bolt and a blown tranny. I have a 90-91 FWD tranny can I put that on my AWD with FWD axles and just take the driveshaft off? Will I have problems with my computer going from AWD to FWD?

Yes, you can install the FWD trans in place of the AWD trans. I've done this on my 90 GSX I retired becuase I needed my TRE trans for my GGSX. If it's a F5M21, F5M22, or F5M31 , you'll need a NT flywheel and clutch. If it's a F5M33, then you'll need a FWD turbo flywheel and clutch. Completely remove the driveshaft. IF you wanted to save some weight you could go as far as to remove the rear diff and inner axles, leaving only the outer axles and cups.

Also, be sure (to keep it simple) to install a 91-94 trans in your car. Typically you need to change the shifter and cables if you go between the 90 vs 91-94. However, in your case if you install a 90, then it will mimic a short shifter system and have shorter throws. Just be careful not to forcefully slam it into gear because if will no longer utilize the stops built into the shifter to keep you from breaking the shift forks.

OK I have the *5fm33* tranny i know it's 33 i cant remember the other letters. I have an ACT flywheel and exedy clutch on my AWD already..are you saying I have to buy a FWD turbo clutch/flywheel as well?

I was reading another thread on this topic and they were saying you have to also change a plate..i was assuming the inspection plate maybe? and also they were saying just the flywheel you can use the old clutch.
No one on that thread had actually done it so I wanted to ask you before I jump into it

Clutch is the same. Could probably get away with the flywheel also, as the AWD flywheel is smaller, iirc.

There's a plate that sits between the transmission and the block that helps mount the starter. You have to get that from the fwd transmission. You can't use the AWD flywheel since it's smaller, the starter won't catch on to it to start the engine.
