Hey guys,
(Kind of long, sorry)
I have already searched for this topic and nothing quite fit mine and I would like more opinions.
I have a 96 GSX that grinds into 2nd, either upshifting into it or downshifting. It's a pretty good grind I would say. It goes in and stays in if you shift like normal except there is a bit of resistence to get it in but not much. I can slam it into to gear and it barely grinds but goes in, but I feel that is probably bad to be doing so I don't try to do that much.
If I shift slowly into gear, like 1-2 seconds to pull it in, I can feel the thumping in the shifter then it goes in with minimal grinding. No differences with it cold or warmed up.
I have read it could be bad clutch adjustment which I'm going to check this weekend, bad tranny fluid which I swapped out to Pennzoil Synchromesh this last weekend(with little difference to no difference in grinding), Missing bolts on tranny which could make the tranny move away from the engine when clutch is pushed in(all bolts are there), and then synchros. I;m guessing it's synchros, but hoping its not.
I'm probably going to take it into a tranny shop to get their opinion this weekend. But I would also like to know what you guys think. I'd love to get this fixed without to much of a dent in my wallet.
Thanks
-Nick
