Ok I did a search first with every limiter question pertaining to fwd turbo cars...well mine is a 98 ESi automatic and couple nights ago it pulled decently up to 100 mph and just fell FLAT on its face ...the motor was freshly done and has a stage 2 head on it now so i know it shouldnt just die at 100 mph...any ideas on a speed limiter on these cars?

What is the top speed of my car?
Top speeds will obviously vary with the modifications to the vehicle. However, the top speeds for stock vehicles are in the following neighborhood:
- 1G AWD: around 140 MPH / 225 km/h
- 1G FWD: 140 MPH / 225 km/h
- 2G AWD: somewhere around 130-140 MPH.
- 2G FWD: some cars are speed limited to 130 MPH - see below for details

Is there a rev limiter on my car?
As far as is known, the ECU will stop fuel delivery on all the DSM cars at 7500 RPM.

Some 2G FWD cars have a speed limiter which cuts off fuel at 130 MPH. This is because the stock H-rated tires are only rated up to 130 MPH. Replacing the tires and performing this procedure will eliminate it. Warning: you do this procedure at your own risk. There is some information that this fix only works for 1995-1998 cars.

All from vfaq btw..

I have no idea why your hitting a brick wall at 100 mph..

2gnts are "Drag limited", meaning they will go as fast as the engine can push the vehicle through the air. A 2gnt with a healthy 420a should do 120mph.

Figure out why you're losing power.

There's no govenor on 420a's. Just a rev limiter at like 7800 or thereabouts. Lack of power may be your problem.
Manual tranny n/ts redline at 7200 or so. 7800 is like Honda redline

I did 130mph easy in my 420a.

My car, completely stock, would get up to 120 easy. After the bolt ons, I/H/E, it got up to 135 on a 4 mile road. With the cams and everything, it sails past 100, 110, and starts to ease up at 120.

Its probably because your car is auto. My buddy had a 95 RS auto, and it would crawl at anything past 100. Depending on what your mods are, you might not be getting enough air into the motor for it to push you any faster.

So basically, take that boat anchor out and get an NV-T350

My 420a in all stock with no bolt-ons and made 130mph easy. Also my 420a is 5 speed all day. My friend has a 98 auto GS and his car is slow as hell. I raced him and I flew past him in only 4th gear with I hit 5th I hit 130+mph.

:hmm:....Alright,Thanks guys for your input. I figured a 5 speed swap would do wonders at this point, this autotragic is terrible LOL, so ill keep you posted...

N/A, auto, thats why you can't pull 120mph imo.

My friend's bone stock ESI Automatic topped out at 121.
So some where you are losing power.
But depending on the strength of the motor top speed will vary.
My current 420A will only do about 125 with some bolt ons.
But my old bone stock 420A would all most hit 140.

Well my first dsm , a 96 RS 5SPEED, ran up til little over 130 ...after i lowered it, intake, header, exhaust, coil...the car died out at 125...now fast forward 5 years to my 98 Esi auto and it struggles to hit 102 stock, then after the stage 2 cams , bigger intake manifold, free flowing exhaust were installed, did the same thing...:hmm:

Yes, the 420a MTX redlines at 7200 but you can sail past that until you hit the limiter at around 7800. The ECU stops fuel delivery at 7500 RPM to be exact. :thumb:

No. It redlines at 7 and rev limits at 72-73. Ive done it. You can not make a stock manual 420A hit 7500 RPM. If you think you can, its because your tach is off.

Lol something must be wrong with mine too then, After about 100 its just doesn't wanna do anymore. 97 Esi auto...humm... I do have Header, down-pipe and exhaust, and cold air intake...but I'm not to worried, my Awd sails:D

Really, 7k? All these years I was thinking MTX was 7200 and ATX is 6500. VFaq said all DSMs bounce at 7500. I guess that site can be off at times.

Touche.

The speed has alot to do with wind resistance and power of course. I have all the bolt ons for my Automatic 99 eclipse rs n/t. Every time I have tried to max out my MPH I have only gotten to 110 before it falls back down to 100 again. Seems like enough power to go at least 125 or so but it drops all the speed.

If you dont plan on going turbo jet sells a chip (or at least they used to) that raises the redline to 7500 and fuel cut to 7800 on a mt, im not positive about the at

140 in 4th gear at 7k, 154 in 5th at 6400 RPM is my best/worst however you look at it. I think I could've gone faster in 5th, but as it was I had to change my tighty whities when I was done. Im boosted, and manual tranny but stock ecu. I would never do that again, but at one point in time I was younger and thought that was cool.

Sorta off topic, but at those speeds the slightest bump in the road is very scary, and really stupid. It is so easy to have the wheel jerk around on you at that kind of speed.

I would never suggest trying to obtain those speeds on any road other then a track ever again.
