My brother ordered me a 97-99 front bumper front rockauto.com for my birthday. I received it earlier today and installed it.

There were a few problems with the bumper. Its like it was half-assed. the 5 bolt holes at the top of the bumper don't line up with the metal support. the three brackets that are on each side the of bumper (where that splash guard and bumper meet) well there are no holes for those screws. there is a gap between the hood and bumper. Minor imperfections I can fix with a drill but the point is. He paid for a brand new bumper that is supposed to be a direct fit to the 95-96 there is no need for the imperfections. I think I would have been better off getting a bumper from a junker.

But with those problems said is there anyway to fix the gap between the hood and bumper? it looks pretty hideous when you get up on it. oh, I took off the Styrofoam bumper support thing (still have it) do you think that could cause it? is the 97-99 hood a little bit more curved or a bit longer?

Here are some pictures so you know what I mean:

A before and after to see the gap from a "then and now" p.o.v

Okay well first of all that is the kind of fitment you get with aftermarket front bumpers, they just take a little extra work to make them fit.

I would just add some spacers underneath the top lip (the one that has the mis matched holes) and that should pull the front up. Pretty self explanatory.

That's typical for aftermarket needing some work to make it fit perfectly. Sucks it happened to be a birthday gift. Have you measured the upper part where the headlight start to see if they are the same length? If they are, it could just be needing some adjusting

To me it looks like your trying to do a 2ga 2gb conversion. You need to get 2gb head light lens too or the bumper gets pushed and bows out on the nose like yours.

Yeah it is a 2ga to 2gb. the thing is I got the 2gb headkights from a 97 gs at my local junkyard so I know those are the correct lenses.

As far as the fitment for aftermarket bumpers. this is my first car so not a whole lot of knowledge of adjusting the fitment. To me if the description says, fits a 97-99 eclipse it better damn fit without having to drill new holes and what not. then again I do have a 96 even still I haven't seen any 2gb conversion do this.

Tomorrow, I will look at it and mess with is again to see if I can fix the problem.

ANd I have not measured the upper part, I will do that also because that as well could be a problem.

I was throwing around the idea of taking my car to a body shop and my have them cut off the upper part of both bumpers but mold the 2ga upper part to the 2gb bottom part. but that is last resort kind of thing, I just don't like the gap at all.

05/3/14 Edit: Okay so I checked out the bumper again to address the gap problem. the only thing I must say is to pay attention to where things go LOL. the reason why the 5 bolts didn't line up is because the bumper was below the metal frame so I couldn't push it any more forward to align the bolt holes. thus making the bumper sit lower than it should. I moved the bumper up from the frame so its sitting between the frame and the removable piece of metal.

If I paid more attention to the removal process I could have avoided the stress of having a faulty bumper!

Heres the end result:
