I bought a long block the other day and I was wondering if there is a way to tell if the block is 2ga or 2gb. When i took the engine apart it had the 3piece thrust bearing in it but I was told it was from a 95. It has pretty considerable end play and the bearings just wiggled around. I just want to make sure they just didn't put the wrong thrust bearing in.

The simplest way to tell if you have a saddle bearing thrust, or the split/3 piece thrust is look at #3 main on the girdle.

If it is machined, then it is a saddle bearing or full round thrust. You will have a block side saddle bearing and a girdle side saddle bearing.

With the oil pan off you will be able to see it

Now if you have the split thrust block, the girdle will not be machine on #3, and trust washer will only go in the block. the girdle will be thicker so the ends of the thrust washers will rest on the girdle and hold them in place.

Sorry im a little late. But that is how mine is and I ordered the right bearings thank you for the pictures. Pictures help so much, another question I now have is how do the washers stay in place when putting the crank on?

The thrust washers balance in a machine area of the block, then the thrust area of the crank holds them in place.
