I know the 1g head has bigger ports and should flow more but I was wondering if anyone has ever done a comparison between them.

Does anyone know if anyone has ever done a comparison between the 1g and 2g head?

If anyone knows of any links I would appreciate it.

Thanks

What kind of money are we talkign about for a nice decent port job? I'm not talking about a full blown hardcore ass super race port job...

prob looking at 300+ for a port job I average when asking places around me around 350 for a gasket match port job. if you have both then go with the 2g if you only have the 1g then stick with the 1g unless you are making plans for a race built car.

not trying to hijack but I had the same question and was not getting any responses.

I currently have a 1G 6 bolt head and a 2G head. Now I swapped the head bolts and found the 1G (6bolt)head bolts will fit in the holes on the 2G head. So is the machining necessary for the bolts to line up properly with the block? more questions in my link aswell.

deal is....... My buddy has a 1g head, port work, jackson auto machine +1mm nitride valves, bronze valve guides, valve seals, crower springs retainers and locks, 3rd gen lifters.... thing is its got two bent valves and two cracked valve guides.... For 600..

If I were to get it then I'd have to get two valves, two guides, new springs (for my wants of reving to 9k) Crowers are only good for 8200-500...

I can get a 2g head wtih everything ready to go and have it built almost exactly like the 1g is for almost the same money as having to get the 1g head repaired and everything.... Thats why i'm torn between the two...

Is that including port work on the 2g head? If not, like I said before, the 1g head will flow more without porting.

if the price is almost the same as and you don't have a either head then go with the 2g that way in the long run if you want to take your car further you have what it takes to do so and won't have to go back and redo another head. do it right once or pay for it twice.

wont you have cam angle sensor problems using the 2g head on 1g 6bolt block without link or something? Id think it would be easier using the 1g head, and like the other guy said it will def outflow the 2g head in the higer rpms unless the 2g head was ported ; and not all port jobs are good, so Id say just get the 1g head and it will be cheaper to put another one say if it ever messes up there will be more cheap 1g heads around to replace it with.

2G head = better intake entry angle. If you decide to go with the 1G, send me your 2G head.

I am going to add a little twist on to this hopefully someone can answer. I am doing an engine build up and planning using a 6 bolt motor as a base. However I am going to be ordering a evo 1-3 front end and was wondering which head I want to use then? a 2g head or the Evo 1-3 head or is there not much of a difference between them?

The main thing involved in this is cost. Basically, if you are trying to get the best flow for the cheapest cost, you should get a stock 1g head over a stock 2g. If you want to get the absolute best flow possible and money is not an option, then you should get a 2g head with a lot of port work done by a PROFESSIONAL. Remember, this will not be cheap at all. Eric posted a lot of good info as well.

Ok guys, Just curious, i know that to use ARP headbolts with the 1g block and trying to attatch the 2g head into it, the holes have to be drilled out a small amount. my question is if i were to do this, would i be able to use my 2g head with the 2g 7bolt block later on, should it be needed? ie. i'm just waiting for the new heads coming out from ffwdconnection, and this way i can have a completely stock 7bolt long block just incase anything should happen to my 2.4. thanks
