I'll be the first to admit i'm a newb, don't get me wrong i know some stuff about DSM's just not even close to as much as the people on this site of course but i need to clear some things up for myself

i'm buying a 2g gsx which has a 6 bolt swap and the big 16g turbo
the motor went, there is a knocking noise and the guy who owns it doesnt want the car anymore. the car is in perfect shape and everything else is completely fine and i was just wondering if all i would need to do was buy a new 6 bolt motor and drop it in without worrying about any minor parts to go along with it and would i be able to remove the stock turbo on the 6 bolt i'd buy and attach the 16g to it. and one more thing i know the 6 bolts were 89-92 and 7 bolts from then on but searching for a motor it usually just says the year 89-94, how do i know which ones are 89-92. thanks guys appreciate it

Thats a handfull you would find your best help with a search for 6 bolt swap, any y bolt engine, new or used, i never seen a engine with the year number on them but those threads are everywhere.

Where are you searching for an engine, are you looking for a jdm engine? If looking locally just look at the flywheel side of the crank and count the number of bolts on the crank. If there are 6 flywheel bolts then its a six bolt engine. If its an add from some internet site it should specify whether its a six bolt or not. If it doesn't then you should call them and tell them that you are looking for a 6 bolt. If the 6 bolt swap was already performed then you should be able to just replace the bottom end and be fine(assuming the guy you got the car from did everything correctly). Just make sure you replace the gaskets on the new engine, get some ARP headstuds, and a new headgasket.
