I bought a used 2g O2 housing that was ported out. When we put it on the car along with the new exhaust, the gap between the exhaust and the O2 housing was too big for the gasket to fill, so they torqued the hell out of the stud thinking that may seal it up-it didn't. I bought a new gasket to put on and when the shop went to install it, they found out that when they went to take the exhaust off, the stud had stripped itself really badly when they torqued it down that now the stud just spins freely in the housing. Is there any way to get the stud out and possibly re-tap it so that they can reuse the O2 housing?

Any and all help would be much appreciated!

Thanks,

Adam

If the threads aren't too bad re-taping might work. If not your other options are going w/ a bigger tap diameter & stud, insert a coil, or use a bolt & nut.

Also you might want to check the mating surfaces on both the housing & downpipe for straightness.

My vote is for a bolt and nut (what I did when the same thing happened to mine) :dsm:

Same thing happened to me, took a carbide tipped drill bit and drill the stud out. Then used a stainless steel bolt and nut to go through the O2 housing and into the downpipe. Works like a charm and haven't had any exhaust leaks from it.

To get it out use a drill and easy out.... and as said before go with a nut and bolt...

I tried that and ended up braking four easy outs. Those studs in the O2 housing are usually in there pretty good so you are probably just going to have to drill the whole stud out. Doesn't matter though if you are just going to put a bolt through it.

Thanks a lot for the replies everyone! As soon as I get to fixing it, I will try to let you know what happens.

If you are talking about the bolts that mate the O2 to the downpipe and not the O2 to turbo...Just go to ACE or any hardware store and pick up the strongest grade bolt they carry. Then get a bolt that fits it and work that. It has worked well for me with my DSM and my other cars. Just make sure you get a bolt long enough to compensate for the flange thickness.
