how hard is it to do this? i dont have a 3" inch GM mass but i would like one on a blow thru pipe. how hard is it to go from stock mass on a 2g to mass translator an blow thru and back for smog reasons i live in california. am i better off not putting on a 3" gm mass?

this is going to be used on a PTE 50 trim not my b16g.

thanks in advance

Its not hard. If you have an intake pipe for your stock 2g mas that will hook up to your turbos inlet, then just leave the GM MAF in the UIP and unplug it. Then hook up the 2g mas and plug that in like you normally would.

yeah, since you will be replacing the entire intake, just leave the old one handy, with the mas still attached. And, just swap in a pice of 3.25 inch pipe where the Gm maf used to be. Unless they are so picky that you have to have stock IC pipes as well... that would be a pain.

They shouldn't care unless you go to a REALLY uptight smog station. Find a cool guy, and he should be cool as long as all your emissions equipment is present and functioning, regardless of mods.

thanks guys,

yea i should be fine then if i switch back to my IC pipes i have on now and a stock 2gmass. i will just keep the stuff i have now in addition to my new setup.

by the way i have all greddy IC pipes. and im going for the MAFT blow thru i dont want to put it on the intake pipe.

Well, you can either cut the pipes behind the bov and get a 2 1/4" to 3 1/2" couplers to fit the GM maf, or you can just get dejon blow thru I/C pipe set that mates perfect to a 3" GM maf for 199$. That's the type I have, and also prefer over cutting pipes. :thumb:

And also, switching to a MAF translator is very easy, and well worth it too.

I do not recommend this. This was done on a friends 1g car and did not work so well. The IC piping on the 1g is smaller, so the couplers had a more dramatic increase, but even on a 2g, using the couplers may still direct too much of the air through the center of the MAF, instead of an even distribution. I highly recommend going with the Dejontool piece. Its fairly priced, looks awsome and does its job perfectly.

i totaly agree with getting the dejon pipes over cutting if i cut i would not have anything to switch back to during smog time. also what are you guys using to connect your IC pipes the hose and hose clamps that came with my gredd FMIC blow apaprt all the time. anything over 20psi and the pipes blow apart. is there some brand that is favored more then others?

thanks again
john

I just installed a brand new greddy FMIC today, and the clamps that came with it are crap. They rip apart with even the smallest amount of torque is applied. I would buy some nice strong hose clamps (the ones I have are HUGE and say "breeze" on them I think. Then take the hose sections off, clean up any oil and stuff on em, then put em back on with new hose clamps.

thanks,

i could not agree with you more the greddy stuff that comes with the FMIC kit sucks balls. i realy need an upgrade. although i love the intercooler.

I did not recommend that either. I hope you saw my whole posts, where I mentioned the dejon setup, and how I preferred that over cutting pipes. :thumb:
