I've got a 97 GSX and am in the process of doing a 6 bolt swap. I've got a 2g magnus intake manifold and the engine is a six bolt with a six bolt head. How much of a performance loss would their be from running this setup? From what i have read, the runners on the intake for the 2g are smaller and the intake ports are larger on the 6 bolt head.

This is my setup and what i have going in for a fyi
6 bolt block bored, linebored, etc (All engine internals balanced to .5 gram and crankshaft knife edged)
wiesco .20 forged pistons
Eagle rods
ARP main, rod, head, studs
balance shaft elimination kit
Stage 3 head job with 3mm lash adjusters, hks 272's, SI double valve springs
new oil pump assembly
aluminum pulleys
cometic head gasket
magnus intake
1g throttle body ported to 65
new FP exhaust manifold coated
new Forced Performance 3065 w/ o2 housing, 44 tial WG
3" exhaust no cat
GM MAF and translator
coil on plug setup
MSD DIS-2 with tach adapter
Race Turbonetics race FMIC with custom short route
twin Spal electric blower fans
PTE 880's
Walbro 255 with upgraded SS fuel lines

Dsmlink
Wideband
Tial BOV
external engine oil cooler
Poly engine and trans mounts
Fidanza lightweight flywheel and ACT 2600 clutch setup
Snow performance meth injection kit
I'm sure that i'm forgetting more

Am i looking at a small loss or a huge problem? Thank you very much for any input

Mismatching ports on the intake side could cause all sorts of problems. I would just trade your 2g magnus for a 1g magnus. They fit the same..

thank you for the input, do you think that their will be any harm in running the engine with this intake just for easy break in until i can sell this intake and get the 1G intake? Thanks for any input

You will have a huge boost leak. There is a reason why magnus makes a 1g manifold and a 2g manifold.

If you run the 2g smim like he said you will get a boost leak and when not in boost a vacuum leak which in turn will make you run lean and "could" fry your engine and melt things.

I do not recommend it, have patience and do it right the first time

Thank you all for the input. That is what i was worried about. I'm going to try to find someone that may want to trade or else sell this one and find a 1g. If anyone knows of anyone looking to sell or swap for a 1G please let me know. Thank you all again for confiming what i thought and was afraid of.

You won't just have a boost leak....

The 2nd gen manifold, when bolted on a 1st gen 6-bolt head...leaves a 1/4" gap on the bottom. I doubt it would even run.

I know this because i read on here it would work fine...i bought a 6-bolt head and was pissed, because then i had to get a new intake manifold, i just put a 6-bolt head on my 7-bolt TSi.

Do you know if their is anyway to tell the difference between the 6 bolt and 7 bolt magnus intake to look at visually. I bought this intake off of ebay as a 6 bolt and when i got it the box said 2G (hence assuming 7 bolt) on it. Their are no part numbers and i left a message for magnus and have been waiting for a call back. The guy i purchased the intake from won't return any of my emails, so i'm trying to go through paypal. Basically i'm planning on the worst but hoping for the best. Any help would be great. Thanks

I talked tot hey guys at Magnus yeserday and they were very helpful. I do in fact have the 2G intake and had to order the 1G from them yesterday. Just wanted to let you guys know what they said to determine the difference measurement wise in case anyone ever needed to check theirs. They said to measure one of the runners next to the plenum at the widest measurement (because they are oval) and the 2G's have a 2" runner and the 1G's have a 2.5" runner. Hope no one else runs into this problem. Dam ebay deadbeats. I now have a really nice 2G magnus for sale if anyone is interested.
