I have been working on my car for like a month now  , rebuilding the head, and just doing some regular maintance. While I was doing this I decided to swap my stock 1g MAF with a 2g MAF. So i bought one from a guy on trader, and it came with the hard pipe, kandn filter, and the maf and the plug. It looked in perfect shape before I put it on too.

I installed the new maf by the vfaq book, and doubled and triple checked the wiring. I start the car and it sounds like the timing is way off, but I know its not, it runs like its on 1 cylinder, and idles really low and dies almost right after i start it. I unplug the maf and it runs fine. So somewhere my wires are not right. But I am going exactly by what vfaq says. The only wires I am confused about are the ones that have "different terminalogy." I think the 1g wire is called the idle position switch, and the 2g is called volume air flow reset signal. I dont know if i am supposed to hook these up or not, but i did and it ran like ass, and i unplugged them and it ran the same. So help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the help Lando, but that is exactly how I have mine wired. I am gonna get my buddy's 2g maf and swap that to see if maybe a sensor in mine is bad.

Are you sure you are looking at the plug from the harness side when doing this? Just a quick thought.

Now I am really stumped, I put my buddies maf in and the same thing happened. When I unplug it though it runs perfect. Is there anything else that could make this not work? Again, this may sound crazy, but I am 100% sure the wiring is correct. Is it possible that my is ecu cant handle a different maf, its still stock.

Do you have an afc? I had to lean mine up at 1k low th 6% in order for it to idle. 2k and up low thr and entire rpm range high thr had to be richened 16-25%. Also, if its wired wrong or defective, you should get a cel.

Dude thanks a ton thats exactly what it was! I still had my afc settings tuned to my old maf. I just richened it up a bit like 6% lo th and it idled fine and drove great. Props to you man. :thumb:
