I recently had noticed a cel so I checked it and it was the cam position sensor. Now for the last week my car has been running like crap like bogging and backfiring. Would a bad cam angle sensor cause all of that? Also I took the sensor cover "the three 10mm bolts" and the inside was full of oil is there supposed to be oil in there?

Sounds like there is not saposed to be oil in there, I hooked the ob2 up to my car and it through the same cel sounds like it could be, but you will not find the sensor anywhere but the mitsu dealer and its like $75

the seal on the cps must of went. so maybe just get a seal and clean that up cuz that magnetic and the oil must mess with that.

well I pulled the little housing off and looked and I don't see where there was any gaskets or seals. I ordered a new sensor it was like 70$. I just don't want to ruin this sensor also. So maybe it is supposed to have oil in the little housing. The housing is just the sensor and the two metal plates that come off the cam then the cover I just didn't see any gaskets. Does anyone else have oil in there's?  Thanks -josh

when i did my hg i didnt see any oil, there is the cap right there so maybe theres something wrong with that. the only way to find out if to take the cam out if you really wanna see everything.

what would cause oil to leak into the cam positions sensor housing???? I think this may be my problem would oil in the housing cause the cel for bad cam position sensor to keep reapearing on the obd2? help please

First off yes the CAS will cause all these problems. When will you have the new one to put in the car? If that doesn't fix the problem then get back to us :D.

The new unit should fix any leaks as long as it come with new gaskets.

yes the cas stopped all of my problems. However there is still oil in the housing but after I replaced the sensor I have driven 1k miles so far and I am fine car runs great. :thumb:

From what i remember my 99 CAS had some oil in it - i think its normal to a point.
( the reason the cas has a o-ring on it so it dont leak out past it into the engine bay )
