2g key fob keyless range

So on 2 separate dsm's I have broken door handles entirely due to the key fob range. To lock or unlock sometime I have to literally hold the key fob over the winshield to get the car to lock or unlock.

The key fob is in like new condition with new batteries, tested with rf key tester

So do any of you have exceptional key fob range, or any knowledge on where the rf receiver is located in the car?

range should be about 20 feet.

Mine too only works if I'm literally standing right by my door. Just a few feet away in any direction and it will not function.

There is no external antenna or anything.

Again thank you for the info. Do you have a pin out for the plug that goes into the unit

The black NEC relay looking box appears to be the rf control unit. In your pictures what Is the approximate age if the device, hopefully I'll just need to clean the board and maybe a little new soldier on the connectors
