2g in a 1g

Yes, you can use 2g (7-bolt) pistons in a 1g block and on 1g (6-bolt) rods, but some machine work is required: http://www.vfaq.com/proj-pics/rodspecs2.jpg

You will want to use 6-bolt rods as they are much beefier; at that, there is no difference between USDM and JDM 6-bolt rods. Here's a side-by-side comparison of the 7-bolt (left) and 6-bolt (right) rods:

ok thanks. one last question...i was in formed after i made my first post that the 2g pistons heads that i was going to use is out of a non-turbo 2g...do u think it would be wise to use them in a 1g turbo?? or will that throw of my compression ratios and are they weaker than the turbo 1g? i am assuming that they are but i am wanting to be sure.

cookmeup272 has it correct, a 2g non-turbo piston is from a 420A (Chrysler) engine. The non-turbo pistons are originally 87.5 mm (3.445 in.) in diameter as opposed to 85 mm (3.35 in.) in diameter for the turbo (4G63) pistons.

So the only difference is the diameter? that wont present a problem when the boost kicks in will it?? i just dont want to put it all back together and have the thing detonate in a few hundred miles. I have the 1g piston heads out of my JDM motor so its really no big deal either way...just trying yo make something unique but i want it to perform too..

I don't think I have ever heard of someone putting 420a pistons on a 1g rod. Plus the compression ratio is 9.6:1, not exactly someone most turbo people like to use

I am not certain you are getting what I'm saying. It presents a little bit of a problem when fitting the piston in the block, mainly that (as it is) it won't. The turbo block bore is fractions of a millimeter over 85mm. I can't say whether or not the block can be bored out that much to fit an 87.5mm piston, but it would require a decent amount of machine work if it can.

Don't forget that compression ratio is not only dependent on the piston; it is also dependent on the stroke. There are plenty of guys running turbos on their 420A engines, though most who put down any sort of numbers seem to have upgraded the pistons. I will agree I've never heard of anyone putting 420A pistons on any OEM turbo rod.

ok just checking..i am completely new at this in the DSM realm...i will still stick with the JDM pistons and just switch out the damaged rod with US 1g that i already have...sounds like a plan :)

Sounds like you've got the right idea now. Good luck getting it together!
