Hey Guys,
First thread and I have a question that i cant find the answer for. Im putting a 6 bolt in my 97 GSX this weekend with the 2G head. Does anyone know what head gasket to use? Are they the same? Any help would be great.

They are in fact the same. However, if you're going to run the MLS, make sure you have both head and block surfaced perfectly. Or else it might not seal properly. Unless you're making big power, consider the stock HG with ARP's and some copper spray. You can also consider o-ringing the head for some extra assurance.

Yeah for right now Im just going to run the factory HG. I will upgrade later when i start to build the bottom end. Right now im just running a EVO 3 16g at 20lbs. Nothing crazy. Thinking I should be alright. Has anyone done this before. The 2G head on the 6 bolt. Any tips or problems you may have ran into?

A lot of people, including me, run a 2g head on a 6-bolt. It works very well. You can keep all your 2g accessories/belts, water-pipe, t-stat housing, radiator hoses, coil-pack, etc. You'll still need a 1g CAS and to trim the motor-mount on the drivers side. You'll also need to swap your firing order and wire in the 1g CAS to your 2g harness. And, enlarge the holes that accept your 1g head studs because they (holes) are smaller on the 2g head.

This will be a good time to do your timing belt, all the timing accessories, water pump, etc. Use ARP's, too.

Road///Race Engineering Mitsubishi Eclipse Parts and Performance has a lot of good info about the swap.
