hey all, ive read my balls off and i cant find what im looking for, so i will do my best to put this so that i can get a direct answer or link....

i just traded my 90 tsi for a 95 tsi fwd, the shortblock in it spun a bearing, today i just picked up my shortblock, it is a 6 bolt, which is fine with me, but i have a stock 2g head, my main question is about clearance, the short block was honed .20 and the head was decked(i was told) i am getting a head gasket to cover the clearance from the shortblock. with it being a 2g head do i need to worry about valve clearance? and as i am still very new to dsm's im not getting the concept of the cas and what i need to do with that.. short of hooking up lines and electrical the shortblock and the head could be put together and the car would run(not realistic i know) but thats how put together the engine is for me. thanks all and im sorry if i missed something in my reading.

im already getting the head studs drilled out, actually dropped it off earlier, im more concerned with the valves hitting since so much has been taken off

that is something that i or the previous owner do not know. if i go too big will i be sorry?

I would not worry too much about it most likely not enough was taken off the head to cause a problem even with the stock thickness gasket. The thicker the gasket the less compression your motor will have, but we are talking very small changes by decking a head.

I am running the same thing, a 7 bolt head on a 6 bolt block. The CAS will fit fine, right now there is probably plastic piece or whatever on the top left. You can pick pick it off and clean it really well.

Also check this:

You have your choice of wiring the CAS or getting the adapter from RRE. If I were to do my swap again I would invest the $75 or so and get the adapter from RRE.
6 Bolt Motor Install Into a 2G Eclipse

i guess i dont really understand why i need to use a 1g cas as opposed to the 2g cas that is already installed?

With an external CAS you can adjust the timing manually if you don't have DSMLink or a EMS application.

Because 6 bolt blocks do not have Crank angle sensors, on so you need to send crank angle signals to your 2g ecu via 1g Cam angle sensor. Basicly your cam and crank angle signal must come from 1g CAS. Check out road race enginering for more info. I like version 2 for 95-96 cars

^ That too, my Internet is being slow tonight so I couldn't edit and add to my answer.

I posted the direct link from RRE which shows you the adapter harness as well as super in depth info about the swap just have to do some digging around on the site.

the external timing difference is what i didnt know, thanks for that i have a non turbo 93 7 bolt will that cas work or no?
