o.k i just read about a swap that using a 2g head on a 1g block it seemed pretty straight forward, but then didn't include eny problems they had will doing this if eny. just wondering if enyone had done this and how easy or involved this is? i planned on a simple port and polished head and a eagle rod wiseco piston bottom end. well eny info or ideas would be great.

thanx matthew

It is basically straight forward. The only hard part is wiring the 1g Cam Angle Sensor into a 2g wiring harness. Porting isn't nessicary because the 1g has bigger cams and outflows a 2g head. RRE has a tech article on how to wire it in. Here you go. This should be the only real big pain...

Also, you need to cut the 2g d/s motor mount. But that's pretty easy, and sometimes you have to make the head stud holes larger for the 6 bolt head bolts/studs. Other than that its just the cam angle and you're good to go.

Do not forget that 7 bolts have smaller head bolts/studs than a 6 bolt. If you try and put a late 1g or 2g head on a 6 bolt block without enlarging the hole the head will get stuck. Its only a mm or two diffrence though.

Actually, from another thread about the head bolt holes some people said that they did not need to change the size to get the head to seat properly. Every head is a little different I know I had to change the size on mine but I would double check with your machinist to make sure.

I think that 95bLaCkGsTuRbO got some of the questions backwards you want to know about a 2G head on a 1G 6 bolt block correct? I think that the 1G 6 bolt uses a crank angle sensor and the 2G uses a cam angle sensor. Best in my opinion is to use DSMLink to bring the two different systems together. 1G head is supposed to flow more air at high RPM ( great for dragracing and obscenely large turbos). 2G head has a better port design to maximize the low to mid range airflow ( a ported 2g head is supposed to be superior in street and autocross driving).
This will be the route that I will go when I need a new shortblock. 6 bolt, comp cams, 2G ported head, dsmlink, EVO III 16G or larger 50 trim. :thumb:
This will give me a great streetable car. But it all depends on what your goals for the car are going to be.
Also update your vehicle profile so members don't have to suggest something that you have already done.
If oldman replies to your thread listen to his advice, he really seems to know his sh##.

good luck
Martin

:D Indeed I did. Not sure why you would want to put a 2g head on a 1g motor though. They don't flow as well and the cams are smaller. Unless you are putting a bare one on and switching it all over to the 2g head. Just curious as to why you would put a smaller flowing head on it? Unless like ZmanIV said you are trying to go more streetable but even then until you REALLY start upgrading it won't make that much of a difference.

Don't forget we had to modify the lower timing cover, beotch! :D

thanx to everyone who replied it helps alot except for 95bLaCkGsTuRbO so just miss read but it's all good but the better flowing 1g head wasn't that big of deal thats why i was going to port my 2g head...and yes the main reason is i'm trying to catch crack walk before it catchs me LOL...well just incase this makes eny diffence i'm running.
