So, relatively new to the car scene, and everything mechanical. Bought my first car about two weeks ago, ran great for the first week -.-.
Then it wouldn't start, bought a new battery; problem solved.
Then it wouldn't start again, new alternator. However my friend is a bit of a mild idiot and went to take off the wrong bolt and the timing belt turned a little as a unit. The belt never came off the pulley or anything, though. That's where I got concerned. Being new and all to cars, I didn't know if that could have arguably created a timing issue?
However I was talking to some of my friends and they thought it may have been a MAF so I replaced that. Needless to say I'm about $1,000 in, broke, and my car still isn't moving very well.
It won't rev over around 2.3k, so I was thinking tune or timing issue. Battery was dead for a considerable amount of time.
So I considered the idea of it being in limp mode.. that's where it gets annoying. I've no clue if this car has ever had an aftermarket tune.
Any input would be greatly appreciated as I need this to get me to work so I can continue to dump money into and learn about DSMs :DD.
Thanks.

What bolt was he trying to loosen to get the alternator out? Actually, my real question should be, have you take any of the timing covers off?

Also what's the history of this car? What mods, if any, are done? How many miles?

Yes, It's throwing a CEL but that's from when the MAF wasn't connected. Threw four codes, 3 of which were MAF related. The fourth was "wiring" and I'm assuming that's from either my oil pressure or coolant sensors which both don't work.
As far as the mods: I bought the car with a 3 in. exhaust from the cat, and intake. Other than that the only mods are IC piping. I put about 1,000 mi. on the car, so It's at like 126k right now. It also has (what I'm assuming to be) an eBay BOV. Still has an OEM turbo, but not the original. I also know that the car needs a valve cover gasket, forgot to mention that.
I don't know a whole lot about the history of the car, unfortunately.

Post the 4th code: PO###, disconnect your battery and leave it off for about 10 minutes, then reconnect and drive it. Report back. Also take a shot of your engine bay please. No need for high res but no shitty cell phone pics in the dark either. From there we'll spot anything out of place and tell you to fix it or investigate. Oh and if you have no history on said car whatsoever, let's also assume your car is overdue for two timing belts already. Start saving up for a belt change. While you're underneath there, might as well change your waterpump so add that to the shopping list. If you really want to push it, you can also do a balance shaft eliminator. If you choose the BSE route as well, might as well change out the main seal, change out the front case gasket, oil pump gasket, etc etc. Have fun.

I was talking to one of my buddies that knows DSM fairly well, so he told me to disconnect the battery and try again; no avail.
Uhm, give me one minute though I'll go take a picture of the engine bay.
As of right now I just need it to get me to and from work so that I'll have the money to do the things necessary to get it running mint. I'm at risk of losing my career if I don't get it fixed, which being 19 it isn't exactly common to fall into what you could see being your career.

You'll need an upper timing belt cover but that's not priority. Somebody installed the spark plug cover weirdly, so pull that, check everything and reinstall it correctly. Did you disconnect the battery and reconnect them? If you did, you're still throwing codes? It should have reset the ECU and cleared them. Check the MAF connections. Check the wiring. How well does it idle? Is the 2.3k rev limit the only issue?
